Very Disappointed
Before you buy this item you should know that it DOES NOT come with a diffuser to cover the bulb. We started with a 60 watt bulb, but we couldn't even look in the direction of the lamp - it was THAT blinding. We tried as low as a 45 watt bulb and it is still horrible. We are so very disappointed. The lamp would have been great except for the one major design flaw.

Blinded by the Light
The lamp is perfect except for the missing filter over the light source. It has no way to diffuse the light. We have it pointed away from our seating area so the light hits the wall and not our eyes. I thought we were missing a piece, but according to the other reviews, it must just be part of the design. Or, lack of design.

You get what you pay for
I bought this lamp because I had been drooling over a similar looking one from a famous home decorator store (synonym for *******) for over a year...I could not pay the nearly $300.00 incl. shipping for a lamp! So when I saw this on the O, I got so excited...even my hubby thought it was a good buy. Well long story short, hubby put the lamp together and when I took a look at it I was slightly dissapointed since the canister opening portion (where the light bulb sits) is wide open-as in, there is no piece of "filtering" glass or anything, so it works more like a spot light than a lamp as intended. Now this would work fine if I use it as it is picture on Overstock (pointing upwards), but I specifically bought this lamp because I have very high vaulted ceilings and needed some sort of task lighting to point downwards so all the light wouldn't get lost on the ceiling....My husband thinks he might be able to jimmy rig it...but if not, it will be going back. Hope this helps you all :)

Bad Packaging
I purchased this lamp to point upward and light up the ceiling as my vaulted ceiling does not have track lighting. The box was beat up and the plastic packages that housed each lamp part had large amounts of rust-like residue/dust that stained my hands. The rim around the lamp head had the finish rubbed off and it looked like some sort of corrosion. The lamp tripod "feet" and "legs" had scratches, indicating that this lamp was purchased before, used, and then returned to overstock.com. Lastly, there was a random small, red screwdriver lodged into the Styrofoam packing material that obviously did not come with the product. Needless to say, the lamp is as chic design for its pricepoint and I hope the replacement they send me is void of scratches, corrosion, rust-like residue, and random tools.

looks great
I really like the look of this lamp and would best used to show off a piece of art. I bought the lamp to light the room and it doesn't work for this because you stare right into the bulb when passing.

Controlling brightness
Those of you wanting to control the brightness output of the lamp can go to your local hardware store Lowe's, home depot etc... and by a plug-in light dimmer $14-$20 most can handle up to 300 watts, plug the lamp into the dimmer and you can the adjust the light intensity to you liking.

tripod lamp
the overall product looks decent but a couple screws to assemble the product were not the correct size. I am not sure where to find black screws to fit either. Lowes and Home Depot does not have them.
