Acacia Rectangular Outdoor Dining Table

I ordered a replacement because this table is not the one shown on the website. The wood - still not sure what type it is except that it is not any typical hardwood - has a pretty espresso finish. My replacement was exactly the same as the first one so I sent both back as I am pretty sure it would not hold up in the seasons. Table size was perefct for our covered porch and allows 2 smaller chairs - better without armrests - on each long side and two at the end, so can seat 6. The quality - for inside use - seems pretty good for the price and the workmanship appealed to me more than the one of the Balthazar dining table, which I am mentioning as both tables look very similar on the website, but which is of pretty poor wood on the most vulnerable part, the table top. So, both tables I would not recommend for outdoor use (although I kept and immediately sanded and oiled the Baltazar table for our deck (BTW: the Balthazar bench is of much better quality than the table, at least most parts of the bench, except the slats you sit on, which also needed immediate sanding and oiling to avoid getting black mold triggered by humdity).

The table arrived damaged. One corner was significantly cracked and this seems to be a combinationof being dropped and the tension in the wood. Once cracked in the joint, the tension in the wood caused the long piece on the outside edge to warp. This is a wood selection problem as the grain in this area is not straight. I would not have purchased this item had I seen it in the store but this is the chance one takes when buying online. I am choosing to fix this myself rather than go through the expense and hassle of sending it back.

It is a solid heavy table. However, it arrived with a warped board along the edge that was split on the end. The board is solid and unmovable so I assume it probably was a manufacturing defect. It was too much of a hassle to return it so I will use it as-is. I looked up Acacia wood and found out it does need care if used outdoors. In particular it will absorb moisture and swell or warp so it needs to be treated occasionally with a sealer or oil. Covering it when not in use might be a good idea too.

Overall I'm very pleased with this table. It's attractive and looks as good as much more expensive teak furniture. The dimensions are as described, which fits perfectly on my narrow balcony. I was able to push it up against the wall and still fit 4 chairs around it, one on each end and two on the exposed side. Two things I would note, though: First, the table was several shades darker than shown in the picture on the website. It's a very attractive, rich medium-brown tone, so I'm happy with the color, but if you're going to try to find chairs that coordinate, definitely wait until it arrives so that you can see the color in person. Second, it's completely unclear if the wood is treated (and if so, with what) for protection from the elements. It came with no information, and the description on Overstock was unclear in this regard. I expected it to be untreated, but given the darker than expected color, it appears to have a wood stain on it, and water beads up on the surface, which seems to indicate that it's treated with something. I have no idea if I need to apply anything to the wood to protect it from the elements and prevent the color from fading. At my hardware store's suggestion, I'm going to try treating it periodically with teak oil.
