cool product

Let me explain what I think about this unit. I have 3500 square feet house in Central Florida and top of the line heat pump Central Air just installed a few years ago. All works perfect except one thing: I have to cool the entire house with it and at 4500 Watts in case of power down my diesel generator at 6500 Watts is just about running it when 1100 Watts refrigerator and lights are on at the same time. Another thing is Central Air conditioner will get you over 250 bucks electric bill during summer and this is when thermostat is set to only 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, I ordered this unit from Overstock thinking it is going to be so-so portable that can subsidize cooling now and then. The unit came in UPS, it is about 84 lbs, has wheels, is very quiet, does wonders drying the air, very nice quality built and components, remote, digital thermostat, can be converted to auto drain with just additional hose if you really must, runs on 1100 Watts, and is pleasant to look at. At 9000 BTU it is very nice gizmo indeed ? no vibrations, smooth working and very well made. That very same day I received it and run it for entire day, I logged in back to Overstock and ordered another one just like it. I hope that explains how good and useful this thing is. Get one if you need one and you will be happy you did. BTW, packaging for shipping was absolutely exemplary ? this thing would have to be dropped from 2nd floor on concrete to get damaged in all that styrofoam and cartons. I am very happy with this purchase. I am not frequent shopper at Overstock, but this is one of those items you will very much enjoy, used as air conditioner or dehumidifier, which means this is not just to be used during summer. It is an excellent item. I still cannot figure out how Overstock can ship it for 3 bucks, because others will charge you 50 or price of unit is more of less going to include that shipping.

Great Value!

I have had this air conditioner for 2 years and love it. I love the dehumidifier function and it works very well. When the cup gets full it reminds you by beeping and stopping the air conditioner/humidifier function. I empty it every evening which helps a lot because we have a lot of moisture in our room. The air conditioner cools well and has a fan function that sweeps (or oscillates) back and forth in the room moving it around instead of directing it to one area. The air conditioner is quieter than window units but it does take up more room. It is easy to move and store for the winter. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone - it is a great value at this price and lasts a long time!

Works great!

Installing this air conditioner was really easy, the only thing is when put in the window installation it's not fully sealed. you have a sliding piece that is there to close the gap when putting it in a side ways sliding window and that's where the very small gap comes in is from the piece that slides up. I've had it installed for two weeks now and even though there is that very small gap there have been no bugs ect. coming into my room (that i've noticed of course but if i can't see them they aren't there :)..) It cools the room really fast. The lowest the temp goes is 68 ferinheight ( you can change between celsius and farinheight) but that's ok because at 72 it's still very cool. I would recommend this to anyone. No problems with it at all.

Works Great

This ac saved me about 10-15 dollars per month I would think. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to cool the entire house, and it dehumidifies the environment.

Pretty Happy

I purchased this air conditioner for my bedroom which is about 10x20. I am relatively happy with my purchase except for what I consider two minor details. The first is the water container and having to empty it. The upside is that the air conditioner runs about 8 hours before the container needs emptying so about the time I'm getting up, the unit shuts off. The other thing is that it does not make the room very cold, but I can live with that. Since I did not want the hassle of putting a window unit in and taking it out every season, I'm glad to have one I can roll into a closet during the winter.

Caveat to the review...four stars is a guess. Even though it's mid-June it has been too cold to even plug this thing in to make sure it works. It's a lot bigger and heavier than I imagined, but I'm sure it'll be quite useful in the two weeks during the summer when we need AC here in the Northwest. I had to leave town last summer when it hit an amazing 102. It was quick and easy to order and stunning that something that was 90 pounds delivered arrived for a measly $2.95. I love Overstock.com!
