I bought 3 of these umbrellas. One of them snapped in half the second day it was up. They are supposed to tilt, but they don't,even though the tilt mechanism is in place. The umbrella pole broke even though there was only a mild breeze blowing.
I bought two of these umbrellas. The ability to tilt them towards the sun is a really big feature. Very neat and reasonably priced.
this extra large umbrella is excellent in the brutal Arizona sun, it is surprising how much extra shade it provides being 1 foot wider than your average umbrella. With the tilt feature everybody sitting at my 54 inch outdoor table can get the benefit while eating lunch.
Opened our new umbrella today with a slight breeze in the air. It was not tilted! It snapped in two different places almost braking our table.
Very nice looking. Works perfectly on our deck. Heavy, needs a solid base. No problems so far....a good deal. Bought because of the aluminum and plastic pole so it would not rot in our Colorado HEAT. Perfect!
After sitting in the AZ sun for 2 years, the cloth started shredding and had to throw out. I would not call this heavy duty.
The pole to this umbrella was manufactured with such a poor material, that with the slightest wind it would sway and bend from side to side. I didn't return it simply because it would be more work to return this piece of junk rather than to just throw it out!
I got this umbrella almost 2 years ago and I have to say it has held up well. I had a Smith and Hawken umbrella and stand prior to this. Because the Smith and Hawken umbrella was so heavy, the wind blew it over (even though the stand I got for it was supposed to keep it from blowing) and broke it. Let me just say that the Smith and Hawken umbrella was more than double the price of this one and lasted only a year. For the past two years, this umbrella has not blown down once in the wind (even in a hurricane when my husband forgot to take it down). It is extremely light and the stand that I have supports it even in crazy winds. I can only tell you what is my case with my stand, obviously all stands will be different, but the point is that I like this better than the Smith and Hawken because it is a much lighter weight and works great for me. I will admit that the the Smith and Hawken umbrella I had before was a nicer quality. This umbrella has to be manually tilted and sometimes I have to crank it a few extra times for the string pull it up, but it is still standing and I love it!
I PURCHASED THIS UMBRELLA BECAUSE OF THE TILT FEATURE.THE VERY FIRST TIME THAT I USED THE TILT FEATURE ON THIS UMBRELLA , IT BROKE.NOW I HAVE A TEN FOOT UMBRELLA WITH A PERMANENT TILT,DO NOT BUY
I bought this umbrella to use on our patio and the first gusty windy day it lifted up stand and all and bent the pole. I don't know if the 10' umbrella was too big, but our stand is definitely heavy enough. It wasn't a heavy duty umbrella - but it looked nice for the couple of months we had it.
I wanted an umbrella that completely covered my table and this one certainly does the trick! I love that it tilts also. Would recommend this product.
Maybe this is the stand's fault because it fell over, but it should be repairable, after all. There are so many moving parts that it is impossible to imagine this will last even if we turn inside out to grab the pulley line, now one foot up inside the post. Probably something else will go wrong. It is permanently shut, or if we do get ahold of that cable, it will have to stay permanently open. We've had it a couple months. It fell over once. It's a goner. It was very beautiful and handy (nice tilt, strong material) while it worked.
This umbrella lasted three days before the under bars broke. Do not buy this product if you have any type of breeze. I guess they expect you to use it indoors. DO NOT BUY!
Although I like the 10' diameter and look, one gust of wind and it shattered apart and broke in half. All plastic on it came off, this included the key to set and hold the angle mechanism, the housing for the hand-crank, and the cap at the top. The pole broke in half and two sleeves tore that hold the skeletal arms of the umbrella. I have repaired the pole by cutting off the broken piece and re-drilling holes to hold the hand-crank and to connect to the bottom pole. I still need to find a replacement piece in metal that will substitute as the key that sets and maintains the tilt of the pole.
I purchased 5 umbrellas and in under a week they all broke. Two tipped over and they snaped in half. All the hardware is plastice and the metal pole is as thin as a tin can. The fabric ripped on the other three exposing the rods that hold it. GARBAGE! GARBAGE !! GARBAGE!!! I did get refunded so at least Overstock did the right thing.
After we put these umbrellas in the backyard, we thought they looked OK; however, with one storm, they literally bit the dust. We were so diappointed. They are just not durable enough. So, everytime it rains, we are sure to lay them down so that they don't break off. However, the last time we laid one down, the wind got underneath the canvass anyway, and the umbrella broke...laying on the ground!!! We have no choice but to return these!
This heavy duty umbrella is perfect for my yard as we have heavy winds at times. It is very sturdy and attractive. I have had lots of compliments!
Arrived in good shape and seems to work well so far. It tilts well and is a good neutral color. It is a bit light weight and should be kept out of high winds and definitely kept in closed position even during light storms.
Both were a good price but the stand is low quality. We specifically went with this umbrella rather than a market umbrella (which we was our preferance) because it tilted, but this mechanism on the umbrella dosn't function well. The umbrella is too heavy.
I purchased two umbrellas from Ostock previously. They were of a heavier construction, both the post and fabric. Only time will tell if this unit will stand the "test of time". If you purchased this umbrella at a retail store, I'm sure that it would cost much more.
