Holiday Decorating

It's officially time to decorate for the holidays. I typically try to put off the process until the day after Thanksgiving, but my son has been chomping at the bit to pull all of our trinkets, garlands, and lights out of storage and get the party started. The thought of Christmas will do that to a kid.

A few days ago, I finally gave in and let him have it. As I brewed a pot of coffee and turned on some holiday tunes, I noticed my Christmas décor is all kinds of random and it got me thinking about creating a more cohesive holiday look.

Classic Look:

Pre-lit Christmas wreath

Red drummer nutcracker

Gold glitter jingle bells

Modern Look:

Silver and white frosted wreath

Reindeer tea light holder

Desktop golden ornament tree

While my home décor taste leans toward mid-century modern, I'm a sucker for traditional, kitschy Christmas décor. Nutcrackers are among my favorite collectibles, and there are few things better than a glistening, even gaudy, wreath to ring in the season.  But there's something to be said for pieces that are both sleek and stylish; I can see this silver reindeer tea light holder and gold ornament cone tree sitting pretty on my window mantle.

So, tell us. Which Christmas décor style do you prefer: Classic or modern?  Do you make holiday decorating an all-day event? What do you like to listen to as you decorate?

We took a survey and came up with what we think is the perfect holiday decorating playlist. What would you add?

Love that frosted wreath! Very winter wonderland-y.

I could not be more obsessed with that modern wreath! And coming from a German family, I'm always on the lookout for more nutcrackers!
