Hello tjgardner, there is an internal thermostat for safety, if it gets past a certain temperature it shuts the unit off, but no temperature display. There’s a removable plastic grill that fits in the bottom to prevent scalding. Yes it is. The exterior is plastic and insulated from the interior heating element. Thank you for shopping with us!
