I had an older cheaper version of this trimmer that worked for 3-4 years before the batteries would no longer hold a charge. The lithium ion batteries in this trimmer should last longer. It definitely holds a charge between uses and a single charge could last for weeks depending upon how frequently you shave. The vacuum works better than expected but my expectations were not that high. The trimmer is kind of light and the plastic parts seem a little flimsy but if you're careful it should probably hold up to a fair amount of use. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase, it works well and seems like a decent value for the price.

This trimmer does everything it claims to except trim "mess free." I considered returning it but it does have some convenient features. Pros: +very easy and simple to dial in different hair lengths +also easy to remove length selector and use to shape +holds charge well Cons: -compared to trimmer without a vacuum it leaves less hair in the sink but is definitely not "mess-free" If the vacuum was stronger it would probably pick up more hair instead of letting it fall. Overall, there may be a better vacuum trimmer out there that is truly "mess-free."

My husband loves this trimmer. He said it doesn't vacuum all the hairs but its not enough to complain about. Very good purchase for the price.

Vacuum function is great, not mess-free, but better than it would be without it. Initial charge time is long, but I have shaved numerous times without a re-charge. The instructions suck...no pun intended. But, if you pay attention and play with the razor a little you can figure it out.

I replaced my old Norelco with this one & my old one didn't have the vacuum function. While it does keep the cut hair more contained and makes less of a mess, the vacuum and the small opening below the cutting blade causes the shaver to clog quickly, and I have to stop shaving and clean it repeatedly during a shave, or else the cutting ability is decreased significantly. My next shaver won't have the vacuum function....

I had an earlier version of the Phillips vacuum trimmer and used it about 5 years before the battery gave up. This trimmer with the lithium battery charges faster and the charge lasts longer.And the battery should be good for several more years. This trimmer reflects several design improvements; for instance, it comes apart for cleaning and reassembles much easier.

it is good to not have the mess when i shave and trim my beard, i like the fact that it does not require lubricating. i wish it had a staight blade to get to my face and shape my beard, but i do that with my old wahl trimmer and staight razor
