I have a similar model at home that was over $100 for and I bought this for travel. The top hinge comes loose when you open to clean and the plastic clip that holds the blades is flimsy. The shave is not as close as my other Norelco. They looked similar but the quality difference is apparent. If I had bought this new instead of a refurb, I would have taken Norelco up on their satisfaction guarantee and returned the shaver.

This Norelco razor holds it's charge for a very long time. It provides a very close shave, and seems well constructed.

The shaver is attractive but seems to have a slow speed according to my husband . Works well enough. Does not hold charge for very long even after 2 days of charging.

I am a 30 year Norelco razor user and I wouldn't use any other brand. My cool skin norelco died and the cost of heads and battery makes it more cost effective to buy new. I was reluctant because of the mixed reviews that I read. My cool skin was solid and depended. The new 8170XL has some improvements, but some cons. I don't care much for the light weight, almost cheesy feeling (compared to the cool skin). I don't like the very quiet motor that does not wake up the house. But, it sounds just like my cool skin, when it was time to plug it in and charge. I do like the closeness of the shave and that is important. I like the triple/triple heads and floating deck. It does store more shavings than the cool skin. The charge has held up very well, been almost a month and my razor has gone from 5 to 3 on the charge scale. I do like the lights. I do like the trimmer feature, something I did not have with my cool skin. I miss the shaving in the shower option, or shaving with a wet face. As with any electric shaver, you must use a pre-shave first. I find Williams Electric is by far the best that I have tried.

I am quite satisfied with this shaver. I previously tried a competitive brand but was very happy to return to Norelco again. I have been using Norelco shavers for over 20 years. The service and price at Overstock was excellant. I received my shaver in less time than expected.

The flashing lights on the front are impressive and they do serve a useful purpose; however, the overall performance is not all that impressive. I do not see where it shaves any closer than any previous electric shaver I owned. The shaver is easier to hold, is much quieter and does have some nice features, but I was disappointed that it did not give a closer shave.

Despite the flimsy feel, this razor is extremely comfortable and shaves as close as a blade. It shaves much quicker than electrics with a conventional head and is effective no matter in which direction the razor is moved. The charge seems to last a very long time and the razor came with a convenient zippered bag for storage and travel.

Have used electric razors for years but only as a quick second shave, never primary due to the so so results. This Norelco does everything promised and is not the only razor I use. Very quiet, fast charge, stays charged and shaves as closely as a blade! Only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner.

Very happy with product. 1 hour charge up easy to clean. More then what I was expecting. Very pleased.

Shaves very comfortably, but not close. It is quiet, but not silent. Overall, good but unexceptional.

This is a better shaver than I thought it would be, since it was a refurbished product .to look at it ,you can not tell it from a new one. It is very quiet, and is easier to hold while shaving than the old Norelco that I had for nearly forty years. It takes as long to use as the old shaver, but that is probably due to the fact that I have a very tough beard. But overall I think it is an excellent shaver and a great buy at the Overstock price.

It took a few days to ajust to the new razor but since then, good shaves. I'd buy it again.

Would never know that it was refurbished; just like new. Cuts close and silently.
