I have used Norelco electric razors for many years. The 8160XL is certainly up to the quality and comfort level of the model it replaced (when the battery died). The 8160XL has been in daily use for over two weeks and now shows 3 LED's (out of the 5) on its initial charge. Yes, I would certainly recommend this product to friends (and I have).
I was a bit skeptical about buying a reconditioned razor but I should not have been. It gives a great shave. I bought two other razors locally but took them both back because they didn't give me a good shave. This shaver did the trick plus Overstock's shipping & handling is cheaper than most online sources.
I bought this for my father for father's day and he really likes it. It does not appear to be refurbished, but looks and runs new. I don't know whether this will affect the length of life, but since the last one lasted for 18 years and he's 86 now, I doubt if it will be a problem. He likes the way they have made the handle grip...somewhat easier for an elderly person to hang on to. Norelco makes good products and offers coupons on replacement heads for regular buyers. A good choice...
