The bathroom at the facility where I'm living has a commode with an elongated bowl. This was installed on the commode-- don't follow directions. The seat and lid were not removed and it gives more support for this one. I like it-- I don't have to pull myself off the commode with force and the grab bar. Now all they have to do is manufacture ones to use with the elongated-bowl style commode.Read More

Questions & Answers
I found out it does NOT fit an elongated bowl commode. So I had maintenance take care of it. The guy put it on top of the seat that belongs to the commode. The part that they show in front of the toilet bowl is sitting on the original toilet seat. What the heck-- IT WORKS. It is so much easier on my legs and my knees than the standard height.

Best Potty-Training Techniques
Potty training a child is no easy task. Although children will respond to each potty-training method individually, there are a few techniques that mothers swear by and experts approve. It is important to pinpoint your child's temperament before beginning the toilet training process and to experiment with different methods. Total potty training will not be achieved overnight, and parents should expect trial and error. Keep a schedule. Children respond well to schedules. If you have found that your child functions best with schedules for sleep and other activities, then a toilet training schedule is probably going to be effective. Build a reasonable schedule that is right for you and your child and be sure to stick with it. Be clear with nannies, babysitters and childcare workers about your child's potty schedule for the best results. Give rewards. The reward method often works well for children. Many children will find potty training more trouble than it is worth and rewards can give them an incentive to do their best. Determine a reward for your child. Small pieces of candy, sticker charts and pennies for their piggy bank are all good options. Explain the reward system to your child when you are talking about potty training. Make sure you frequently ask your child if she has to use the toilet, and take her to the bathroom each time she says she must go. If you prefer to avoid material rewards, use extra praise or a made-up song, dance or story as a potty reward. Let your child set the timetable. Waiting until your child is ready for potty training is highly effective, low stress and recommended by many pediatricians. When you feel the time is right, show your child how to use the toilet. Books, DVDs and CDs with toilet training lessons can also be effective. While this method will take some time and patience, eventually your child will take interest in potty training and get the hang of it. Using a schedule and reward system when your child is starting to comprehend potty training can help him make the connection. If your child is resistant to potty training, give him some more time and let him take a natural interest.
How to Install a Bathroom Cabinet
Installing a bathroom cabinet increases storage space in a cramped bathroom and adds a decorative touch to your walls. When you install a bathroom cabinet, care must be taken to avoid damaging the cabinet doors, as this is the most visible part of the cabinet. Wall cabinets can be installed over toilets, sinks or anywhere where extra storage is needed. Cabinet installation can easily be accomplished in a few hours using a few common household tools. Look below to learn how to install a bathroom cabinet.
How to Install a Medicine Cabinet
Show your creative flair and add a practical touch to your bathroom by installing a bathroom mirror with cabinets (also called a medicine cabinet). Not only will the extra storage provide space for smaller toiletries and medicine, but it can also bring new life to an otherwise drab and overlooked area. Complement your mirror with coordinating shelves for towels and a vanity sink with room underneath to put larger items, such as cleaning supplies and toilet paper. Choose a bathroom cabinet that will be big enough for placement of items for you as well as for overnight guests.
FAQs about Bathroom Cabinets
Let's face it. For the most part, bathrooms are not designed with storage in mind. There usually isn't any more storage than what the shelves behind the sink mirror can hold. Most floor plans require you to store the majority of your bathroom essentials in a linen closet down the hall. You need bathroom cabinets to store bathroom essentials like towels, shampoo and toilet paper. By investing in bathroom cabinets, you not only keep your bathroom organized, but you can keep your bathroom essentials right where they belong -- in the bathroom.
What to Pack for Africa's Highest Peak
Imagine that you are planning a trip that will take you from the equator to Antarctica in seven days. Now imagine that you have to limit the amount of gear you pack to 35 pounds or less. The task is getting more complicated. What kind of luggage would you choose and how would you pack for a trip that encompasses such extreme changes in climate and altitude? When Erica Davis, a paraplegic athlete, and Tara Butcher, a physically challenged athlete, climb Africa's highest peak, they will have to answer exactly those questions. The challenge: Mount Kilimanjaro rises from nearly sea level all the way up to 19,330 feet. The trail climbs from the hot bushland through rain forest, moorland, alpine desert and arctic glaciers up to the rocky Uhuru peak. A climb like Mt. Kili presents special challenges when it comes to luggage, clothing and gear. Being prepared for the weather and temperature extremes is a necessity, but it's also important not to pack too much. There is a 35-pound weight limit to each piece of luggage carried by a porter. Most climbers pack one 35-pound capacity bag to go up with a porter and one small daypack to carry up themselves. The daypack: Erica and Tara will have 7 days to summit Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro. As they pass from one ecological zone to the next, their needs will change and so will the contents of their daypacks. Each day Erica and Tara will repack their daypacks in anticipation of the specific challenges of the day's journey. In general, their daypacks will include things like water, snacks, dry clothing, waterproof gear and sunscreen. The importance of keeping clothing and gear dry cannot be overstated. When choosing a daypack, a small to medium backpack made of lightweight, moisture-resistant material that comes with a removable waterproof shell will be ideal. It's also helpful if the backpack has convenient access to a water bottle compartment or can accommodate a water bladder. Plenty of pockets, zipper compartments and hooks are also handy. What to pack: A sturdy but lightweight water-repellant duffel bag with a capacity of about 35 pounds is ideal for the trek to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The bag needs to have room for plenty of layers of breathable, moisture-wicking clothing and layers of fleece clothing, as well as a waterproof layer. To save space, it's a good idea to pack clothing that does double duty, such as pants that easily convert into shorts. Aside from clothing, the climb will also require accessories like sunglasses, hats and gloves, plus equipment like trekking poles and a headlamp, as well as toiletries like sunscreen, insect repellent and a first-aid kit. Support the Challenged Athletes Foundation: Overstock.com and the C.H.E.K Institute are co-sponsoring Erica and Tara's climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise awareness for athletes with physical challenges who wish to participate and compete in sports. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). CAF raises funds to give physically challenged athletes the opportunity to stay active and competitive in the sports they love. To show your support for physically challenged athletes like Erica and Tara, donate now to the Challenged Athletes Foundation for the Fit 4 Kili Climb.
