  • Nicer than Anticipated

    Dec 3, 2010

My daughter had been using my Armstrong flute that I played 20 years ago and all the pads were bad. I bought this one as it was less expensive than fixing the pads on my old flute. It is a beautiful looking instrument. It is lighter than the old one, and probably is not made as durable, but for the price of this one it is great. You can buy one like my old one or 5 of these. It sounds beautiful, comes with a year warranty, and looks very nice. Mydaughter even was offered to play a solo as one of the other girls in the bands flute sounded poor and out of tune. You are not going to get the quality of a $500 flute, but you will get a great first instrument or one for an elementary or middle schooler. Very pleased Mom and daughter.

We believe the flute is of good quality. The only suggestion the band teacher made was if the flute needed repair, most repair shops will only work on name brands. For us this was cheaper than rental and as long as it last 2 years we are money ahead. My disappointment came when it arrived and had the brand name embroidery on the case. Started looking on the internet and could have bought the flute for around xxxxx rather than the xxxx I paid.

When we received this item some of the pads had fallen off in the case and others fell off as we attempted to assemble, which I think may be minor. This is an excellent price, especially if you are just learning. I shopped around alot. Did not want to spend much because I was just learning the instrument. Would recommend. Dalyce

  • Clarinet with all the wrong pieces

    Oct 8, 2010

    bandie  from Chicago, IL, Rating:2.0

So I did save alot of money by purchasing the clarinet on overstock.com, but the pieces such as the mouth piece, reed, and cleaning towel were too big and not fitting the clarinet. I had to go to a band store and ask for their help. It turns out that all the pieces were for an alto saxophone. The mouth piece was just "made wrong" as the guy at the band store put it. I was told that it is unusable. Needless to say I had to buy new pieces, so it wasn't an instrument you can take out and use right away, especially for a new beginner band student. With all that said, it still saved me a lot of money even after buying the new pieces. Hopefully, the clarinet is of better promising quality. I will see in a few months.

It plays well enough, but looks awful because the paint is flaking off. It was $160 - not a 'cheapie'. I don't think it should have this problem.
