This seems to be a very high quality kit, but you still have to buy a boiling pot, bottles, a brush to clean the Car Boy and the ingredients for your brew. Other than the added things we had to buy the kit is very good. We haven't had our 1st batch yet but I will post again and let you know how it turns out. I would probably try to find one that had everything included if I was doing it over but think we will be very satisfied with this one after buying the extras.
This kit has all the supplies needed for the beginning homebrewer, usable for both wine and beer production. Even included is a small booklet on the basic principles of how to brew. While it's a nice touch, getting a more detailed book is recommended. The price is really affordable but, in retrospect, if I knew about my local homebrew shop I probably would have bought it there; it's good to support the company that will supply all your ingredients. The only slight I have against this kit is the siphoning tool- I went out and purchased an $8 auto-siphon to make my life easier. But the bottling tools were great. Note that you will need to purchase all ingredients, grain/hop bags, bottle caps/bottles, and thermometer separately, but that stuff comes cheap. I liked that it came with a huge amount of sanitizer which was great! Good luck and check out the AHA (American Homebrew Association) for more info and strong support. Remember- relax. Have a homebrew!
I bought this for my husband for Christmas, and he started the process this weekend. Everything you need is included -- but you will need a large pot, which I also bought from Overstock. Can't attest to the quality of the beer -- it will take a few weeks!
The brewing system contained all the necessary components to brew quality beer at home. I am looking forward to enjoying my husbands creations in less than a month.
- How accurate was the sizing? Great
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Excellent condition
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Yes
kit was great, has everything you need to get started, glass carboy is perfect and price is fair
I agree, it has everything a man needs to brew beer at home. Thing is...what do ya clean the carboy with when finished? Yeah, ya gotta go spend another 8-10 bucks locally or 4 bucks online plus shipping for a carboy brush. The carboy brush should be included and just isn't for some reason. If you can find a kit (another brand) with same ingredients but with an added carboy brush for the same price..get it instead. I prefer idophor as well its much esier to deal with than the c-brite.
I agree with the other review except for the sanitizer I would rather have a no rinse sanitizer. Bottle capper works great on 12oz bottles but not for 24oz cider bottles which I have kept for bigger SAMPLES if you know what I mean. But I made it work.
I bought this gift as a Christmas present. Too bad that when it was delivered it didn't come from Overstock in a non-descript box. It was shipped from the supplier with a huge label that said Monster Brew on it and prominently featured pictures of beer mugs. So much for the surprise. No where in the description does it say that it is shipped direct from the manufacturer....
