This is a great cello. Absolutely gorgeous in person with a sound that matches the look. A very warm tone that carries nicely. I havn't found a note that this cello doesn't like. Both cases are really nice. The hard case is sturdy, but doesn't weight a ton and the soft case is padded with a good sized music pocket and back pack straps. Much better that I was expecting! Thank you Overstock.com.

Pleasantly surprised with this cello. The one I have has a "bright and warm" sound. This is a great improvement on the first student model I had. It would be appropriate for the beginner to intermediate student, or just someone like me wanting to pick it up again to play for the enjoyment. There is no manufacturer's label inside, but is of Chinese origin which is becomimg more common. A few very slight imperfections to the critical eye, but can't complain at this price. They even included rosin which I discovered after stopping by the local music store and getting some. Didn't think it would be included but there it was.

not good
 Jan 8, 2010

1 star is even too much for the cello we got. There is very little ok about it. Strings of very poor quality - sounded like a banjo. We could buy new ones but that's just the start: Pegs slipped and did not stay in place at all therefore it is impossible to tune - unplayable without replacing the pegs. It's a cheaply made plywood cello - not even one of the better plywoods. I felt there is a misrepresentation in the description of the cello on the overstock website at least for the cello they sent us.Bridge too high - would need to be filed down.To be able to play it we would have to invest $$$ that we better spend on a better cello as it will always be a very simple plywood cello of poor quality - no real wood, everything painted over - it looks nice though at first sight. The bow: not good either and in the future it would be cheaper to buy a bow than to get it repaired. We had it checked out by a professional and they just shook their head.Be careful when you buy this: maybe overstock got a mix of bad ones and better ones and we simply got a bad one. I read the other reviews - some people seem content. For us: you get what you pay for.Bonus: I think we might be able to return it.

Euro-style Cello
 Jan 16, 2010

This is a department store-grade item that is very pretty and sounds decent. For the price, it is fair. However, I would rather recommend anyone purchase a used 'quality' item if they are at all musically inclined. We had trouble stringing this item up due to plastic parts, and the case required repair since the luxurious fabric is secured with double/sticky tape. The travel cover is rather nice. Overall, the price reflects what you get. Since this was a gift, I preferred new to 'used'. The genuine quality 'used' instruments we compared to were well over $1000.

Cello Delight
 from Maryland,  Jan 23, 2008

This is the second cello we have purchased for our son from overstock.com. The first was the student cello 3/4 size which he used for 3 years and we then donated it to the school because it still has more years left. Our son is tall for his age and needed the full size 4/4 cello so we purchased this one. The hard case is great for a middle school/highschool student beacuse it truly protects the cello. His music teacher is very pleased with our purchase and commented on what a great purchase it was. You can't beat the price in any store here. It sounds delightful as the cello should and we look forward to many more years of hearing it's music.

Cello for my daughter
from Columbia, SC,  Feb 22, 2007

Purchased for my daughter whose been playing for about two years now. Other reviews indicated cello is perfect as is, not in our case. Overall I still think a good deal. Negative: Had to replace the pegs and bridge for proper setup. I decided to replace the strings with a better quality set, but high strings continue to have a "screeching" sound. Cello stand would not hold cello, kept falling over. Positive: Hard and soft cases, good bow, warm sound in lower strings, and great price for beginner to intermediate cello students.
