Great starter!
 from Utah,  Aug 25, 2009

My 7th grade daughter needed a violin for school and I have NO clue what to get but took a chance as Overstock items are always a killer deal and great quality. Her music teacher said it was a great purchase and perfect for starters. Very pretty, too!

Great value

I was looking at $2,400 violins for our 6th grader at the music store. Thought I would try Overstock and so glad I did. This is a sturdy violin with case and is a perfect fit for the age and interest of our son.

Violin
from Raeford, NC,  Nov 11, 2011

The type of wood and painting was very poor. There was no manufacturer name on the instrument so I did not know who made it. The rosin and case was very good but I would not recommend this instrument to anyone.

  • How accurate was the sizing? very accurate
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. poor

Nice finish, good buy
from Los Angeles, CA,  Oct 3, 2011

I bought this violin for my 9-year old daughter's first year of violin instruction at school. It is a very nice looking instrument with a durable case. I have friends who've played violin and they've all commented on how pretty it is for about $$$. The only problem is that it really is too big for a beginner. I would recommend a 3/4 violin and some kids even had a 1/2 violin. They enjoyed their first year far more than my daughter. Overall, it was a great purchase and it saved us money compared to renting.

Great value
from Minnesota, USA,  Aug 23, 2011

We purchased this for our middle schooler who will just be getting started learning to play violin. I played for many years when I was a kid, so I was able to quickly get it tuned. Was a bit concerned about the tuning pegs holding their position, but after leaving it for a day or two, none of the strings had slipped so I think it will be fine. Quality of the instrument looks good -- fine for a beginner. If our kid really enjoys it and wants to continue, we can buy a better quality instrument and sell this one to recover some of what we paid. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. Now we just need to see how it holds up once the school year starts and he begins using it and transporting it back & forth to school.

  • How accurate was the sizing? Correctly sized
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Good.
  • Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Yes

Very good quality. I took it from the case, tuned it up, and played it right away. Solid product. Will likely buy another for my child.

Still making music
from Kansas City MO,  Nov 17, 2010

Bought the black one a few years back. I started taking lessons and did want to invest too much until I was truly vested in the endeavor. The school labeled the violin a good student violin and four years later I'm still making music. When I let it rest for a few months, the strings do loosen quite a bit, but is a quick fix with tuning. If I'm ever convinced that I have real talent rather than a strong desire, I'll invest in a higher end instrument.

Great for the price
 from Florida,  Nov 14, 2010

I wanted a violin that didn't cost me too much as I'm just getting back into playing after 47 years away from it! This violin has a very nice tone, case is nice, came with two bows. The only issue I've had is slipping pegs, but I used peg drops and they worked great. For a starter violin--terrific.

4/4 student violin
from williamsburg, va,  Aug 19, 2010

we were pleasantly surprised by this violin. we decided to buy it after renting a violin for the past year and it was worth the investment. the price could not be beat, especially when compared to what we paid for the rental over the school year. it is beautifully lacquered and has a fabulous sound. the "one nice bow" is really nice. it does not come tuned or with the bridge set and we had to have those things done. the man at the music store was impressed with the quality for the price and said it will be a great learning instrument and should last for many school years. yay! the zippered case is also decent. its a little lightweight but will get the job done. it comes with rosin and backpack straps to make it easier to carry. if you need a basic violin that looks and sounds great and dont want to spend a fortune, this is the violin to get.

I purchased this violin for my son, (this is his third year playing), because we did not want to rent one any more... When I opened the case, I was very impressed with how nice the violin looked. It looks like it cost much more than I paid for it. I looked inside to see who the manufacturer was, but I could not see a label inside... I think it must be engraved inside...The case is also very nice. It looks very well made, and it has a roomy compartment for the rosin, that closes automatically, and an extra protective pad to cover the violin with, before you close the case. I took it to his music teacher for tuning, and he was very impressed. He smiled widely and said it was a very, very nice violin. My son is very excited and EXTREMELY pleased with it !!!
