Overall this is a great instrument and an excellent value. Finish is nice and the sound is good. However my daughter snapped a string already and I'm not sure if this is the strings fault or hers. She already has the cello and is not new to strings. I would recommend this to someone and it's MUCH more affordable than renting at a music shop. The case and bow are excellent and I cannot say it enough, it's a great deal!!

i had read many review before i placed my order. I had rented musical instruments in the past and weighed up the pro's and cons for buying and renting....but i decided to buy for what you are spending you are getting better than what you would expect, but then again you dont want to spend too much money on an instrument that a 5th grader is going to play...I will upgrade in the near future but for now very satisfied with my purchase and complaints, excellent value for what i spent. It does not mention in the description but it does come with resin.

I got it in the mail and was so excited. I am a beginner so this instrument is perfect, but was sad that the bridge was missing. I contacted customer service though and they sent out a new one ASAP

I bought this for my son for christmas. He has never played violin before but is extremely talented with many other musical instruments including stringed instruments, so instead of paying a couple of hundred dollars on a good quality violin that I wasn't sure if he would stick with, I purchased this package for a starter. He was dissapointed when it didn't make any sound. I took it from him and did some research and now it is working wonderfully. First of all, the rosin needed to be cut with a knife since it was brand new. After that, you could get plenty of sound out of it even without plugging it into an amp. Second, it needed some peg grip which I bought from the music shop for $5 and it works a little too well. Third, the bridge needs to be cut but I did this myself with a carpenter's knife and some sand paper. It's really easy since the violin is flat and the feet of the bridge is flat as well. All that needed to be cut is the corners. It took a steak knife to put the grooves back in and some lead from a pencil helps to keep the bridge from tilting when you tune the strings. The only thing that I was disappointed about with this purchase is that the tailcord kept slipping and the metal piece actually popped off the cord at one point. I had to buy a new tail cord which was $7 and now it's working perfectly. It's definitely not for beginners who expect to take it out of the box and start playing and it is not the best quality considering what you are paying for the whole package but I definitely think it's worth it and I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of it. The blue color is darker than it appears on this website which i actually prefer. If I had to do it again, I would not purchase this only because my son ended up not liking how this looks. He likes the retro look of a traditional acoustic violin. I used to play violin in middle school and I am loving this.

The only problem i had was with the rosin, it had hardened, but once moistened with steam, i was able to apply it to the strings.

This is a good violin to learn on for the value. Ignore the people who complained about this instrument. They have no knowledge of musical instruments particularly of the violin. It is a difficult instrument to learn and takes years to master. As a noob, I sound horrible due to my technique. The only issue I had was tuning. The strings are brand new and need some time to stretch out before you can get a reliable sound. Overall its a good buy for what you get.

It is a fine violin and perfect for my 9 year old granddaughters first violin to see if she likes it. But certainly is not the quality of an instrument you would use for a long period of time. Perfect for a beginner.

I previously sent another violin to my grandson and it was not a quality product. Upon receiving the violin purchased from Overstock, my grandson was very pleased and my son and daughter-in-law had very positive comments to make. This violin is an excellent beginner musical instrument.

My daughter loves it....very light weight and easy for her to trek back and forth to school. She is 9 and just starting instrumental and her teacher seems to think it was an excellent choice. Over-all I would recommend this violin for first-time or beginners.
