Eye Candy

88 color eye shadow paletteI have a confession to make: I am completely addicted to eye shadow. I have an entire makeup bag devoted to eye shadows, and only eye shadows. I can't walk past a cosmetics counter without stopping, staring, testing and (more often than I should) buying. It didn't help when I stumbled across this set of 88 eye shadows, because that more than doubled my collection in one go. Oh, but look at all the colors!

Eye Heart Eye ShadowWhy eye shadow? Well, for one, I'm a girly girl, and eye shadow is straight up pretty and sparkly. I covet Katy Perry's bubble gum-gilded lids. I swoon for Kim Kardashian's sexy smoky eyes. I have a need to spend late nights in front of my bathroom mirror trying to replicate these looks (which never quite happens, and so I buy brighter eye shadows and fancier brushes in hopes that new makeup will somehow trump my inferior application skills).

All the time I hear women saying that they love bold, dramatic eye shadow, but that they could never pull off the look themselves. I say, why can't you? Bold and bright are big this year, and if Adam Lambert can pull it off, so can you. While Adam Lambert's eye shadow choices aren't necessarily inspiring my late-night eyeshadow adventures, you've got to give the guy credit for his devotion to the eye makeup.

Eye shadow and brushesLuckily, with fall creeping upon us, it's the perfect time to start trying out heavier, richer cool-weather looks, too. The warm colors of this eye shadow quad are begging to be layered for a deliciously cocoa-tinted look. Smoothing on this glittery silver shadow for the evening is going to make those shorter autumn days more bearable. I mean, it's going to make me count down the minutes to sunset just so I can pull it out. Using it wet as a liner will really make my eyes pop on crisp autumn evenings. I'm obviously already starting to have visions of it.

So what are your favorite eye shadow colors and styles? Is there a celebrity whose makeup you just love, or do you have a brand-new eye shadow you're dying to try out? Have any eye shadow tricks I should know about? Tell me all about it! I'm always looking for new eye shadow ideas. Let's hear yours.

This makes me want to try out some silver shadow... something I thought I'd never say!

I have exactly four eye shadows and I use three of them -- every day! I used to only use two, but I realized that the light grey-silvery one I had was really good for highlighting under my eybrows, so I added that into the routine. I get so nervous about trying something different, but that huge palette is so enticing. So many colors!

I don't have any

88 eye shadows?! How fun is that? Thanks for the tips.

I want the glittery silver shadow. now.

That silver shadow is making me swoon. I have a lot of eye shadows, products of my very short time as a Mary Kay lady...errr teen. My favorite time to use them, though, is Halloween. But maybe those wild colors and styles can work for other days of the year...My best tip is to BLEND like crazy and my biggest problem is keeping them from creasing. Anyone have better luck with that?

I've always heard to wear an eye shadow primer to keep your shadow from creasing, but even when I wear a primer, it still does. It helps sometimes to apply the eyeshadow wet, because it helps it stick to your eyelids better.

Use an eye makeup foundation on your eyelids before you apply the eye shadow. The foundation will prevent smudging, creasing and will make the color love you long time. They call me einsteinium for a reason.

I ripped an ad with Halle Berry out of a magazine once because I wanted to copy her gorgeous smoky eyes -- but it never quite worked out. I stick to purple and brown now, colors I know work with my eye color. How boring. I kind of want that rainbow of eye colors.

I love eye shadow too. But, I always get stuck doing the same looks over and over. Thanks for the ideas.

I love eye shadows and eye liners! Question: What color tells you that you've gone too far? I still miss my turquoise eye liner from high school.
