"Marvel's The Avengers" comes out on DVD today, and I for one could not be more excited. I can't wait to sit down with some take-out shawarma to go and check out the deleted scenes and storylines that didn't quite make it into the theatrical release.
(3) Comments Posted in Entertainment MoviesAs it turns out, today is a big day for birthdays in Hollywood and among pop culture fanatics. As we all know, I can't resist a reason to celebrate, especially when it means I get to eat great food, watch fantastic movies, listen to some classic rock, and maybe even learn a thing or two.
(3) Comments Posted in EntertainmentNew releases come out every Tuesday, but it's a day like today that gets a TV lover giddy -- including a few people around the office here -- with excitement. Some of last year's most popular shows are available on DVD and Blu-ray today, so clear your schedule and stock up on snacks. You're going to want to watch these again and again.
(1) Comment Posted in EntertainmentHere at Overstock.com, we like to kick back and have a little fun from time to time. This last Friday, our creative team spent the afternoon away from the office seeing one of, if not the, biggest movies to hit the box office this year: "The Avengers."
(2) Comments Posted in Entertainment MoviesI may not have immediately recognized the name, but there was no forgetting the books that illustrated my childhood. I remember reading each of Sendak's with both awe and a bit of mild terror. I think that's exactly the reaction Sendak was hoping for. What do you remember most about Maurice Sendak's stories? Which is your favorite?
(5) Comments Posted in Entertainment BooksFor many people, storytelling is something that's only for children. Others think it's an old-fashioned folk art that is only enjoyed at quirky festivals held in public parks. Good storytelling is everywhere, though, and in honor of National Storytelling Day -- which is today -- I've gathered a few of my favorite examples.
(2) Comments Posted in EntertainmentThere's something about classic Nintendo characters, isn't there? Maybe it's nostalgia, but I don't think any of us will ever get sick of playing with Mario, Yoshi, and the rest of the Mushroom World band. That, I'm sure, is what makes all of the many Mario games for the Wii as popular as they are.
(1) Comment Posted in Entertainment"Once upon a time, there was a story that the whole world told." There's something magical about books. They give you the power to transcend reality or to escape into a story and create your own imagery. And there's nothing quite like the smell of the paper and the satisfaction of turning each page through your fingers, saving your place for later.
(5) Comments Posted in Entertainment BooksThe newest Muppet movie, "The Muppets", is now out on DVD! The idea behind the film is that all the old Muppets, like Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, and all the other chickens, rats, pigs, and other creatures (who's your favorite?), must reunite to save The Muppet Theater. Sure, it's a kids' movie, but if you grew up with The Muppets, like I did, it's pretty hard to resist a little nostalgic throwback to days of watching Kermit and Miss Piggy.
