With products with a set shelf life, I am always concerned that I will receive the items that were manufactured years ago. NOT this item. It was packaged and sealed on Jan 31 2013 with a shelf life as stated...the full 20 years providing it is stored as required.
This is the first time I ever tried buying large quantities of survival food. The taste is not as good as buying individual dry soup mixes, but comes in much larger quantities for less money, and the soups can easily be better tasting with a few added spices. The only package that is resealable is the oatmeal, so storage containers are needed for any unused portions.
How did the image on site compare with the actual product? spot on
How accurate was the on site description of the product? very accurate
Please tell us about the quality of the product. good
First off. Most people don't open this and use it, as it is for emergencies. So you won't find as many revies as there should be.
With that said, I haven't used it, but i have researched it. This is the best bang for the buck. $10 cheaper than wise and you get so much more. This is emergency food with a potential shelf life of 20ish years. I hope to never taste it!! Shipping was very fast and everything came well packed. Close to 2k calories a day. Most others are far less than that. I am sure if your a guy like me(6'3", 240LBS) you will need every bit of 2000 cals. Mostly meatless and "soupish".
I am giving this 5 stars for amount of food and calories.

When I received my pails, each pail has noticeable dents. Is this because air is removed from inside the pail, collapsing the sides?fearless_leader31 on Oct 6, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello fearless_leader31, per our contact with the manufacturer, this occurs because all the air has been removed, and when it changes elevation, it sucks in even more, due to the pressure change. I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for shopping with us!overstockcustomercare1 on Oct 14, 2014

Are the total number of servings for each item in one package, i.e. there is one package of instant potatoes that has 30 servings; or, are their multiple packages that equal the 30 servings?mxw5169 on Feb 7, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
I havent opened mine, but I believe they are all in their seperate bags that are resealable. Also, just for consideration, I contacted Augason Farms and asked how much water is needed for each bucket in order to cook everything. The answer is 18 gallons of water will be needed.joedirt237 on Mar 11, 2013
Yes, I understand that the expiration is on the bottom of the can. However, *before* I purchase the can, can you tell me what an average expiration date is? I don't want to purchase something that expires in 5 years because it's already been setting for 15. I want to purchase something that expires in 20 years. So, what is the expiration date on the products if I were to purchase them today?avrilvan on Dec 5, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Here is a link to the shelf life of our product. http://www.augasonfarms.com/image/pdf/Website/Shelf%20Life%20List.pdf

Unfortunately we do not know if the food in this pail contains MSG. However, we will research this matter and get back to you.overstockcustomercare1 on Oct 30, 2012
I encourage you to look into hydrolyzed yeast extract. Also autolyzed/hydrolyzed vegetable protein.
These are found in every bucket of food produced by any and every company that makes these dried food bucket/pails.
These things have the same affect as MSG. The name is different, but your brain won't tell the difference. Your neurotransmitter glutamine (the 'g' in MSG) goes into overdrive when you consume food that has MSG added to it, and also hydrolyzed yeast extract and autolyzed vegetable protein.
The reason these things are added to our food is so that our brain will send the signal (glutamine) to other parts of our brain telling us that it tastes good.
SO, while there is no ADDED MSG. There ARE other things added that have the exact same affect :/
This is true for every kind of survival food that I've researched.
It most likely isn't that big of a deal, unless you're older and are starting to get migraines from MSG, or if you hope to live off this survival food everyday for several months. Then I might be concerned...mendedarrow on Dec 24, 2012
