grab a few and put them away, one note is it takes 18 gallons of water to re-hydrate the entire bucket, just stock up enough water so you dont fall short

    • Emergency Pail Food
      Verified Purchase

This is the first time I ever tried buying large quantities of survival food. The taste is not as good as buying individual dry soup mixes, but comes in much larger quantities for less money, and the soups can easily be better tasting with a few added spices. The only package that is resealable is the oatmeal, so storage containers are needed for any unused portions.

With products with a set shelf life, I am always concerned that I will receive the items that were manufactured years ago. NOT this item. It was packaged and sealed on Jan 31 2013 with a shelf life as stated...the full 20 years providing it is stored as required.

First off. Most people don't open this and use it, as it is for emergencies. So you won't find as many revies as there should be. With that said, I haven't used it, but i have researched it. This is the best bang for the buck. $10 cheaper than wise and you get so much more. This is emergency food with a potential shelf life of 20ish years. I hope to never taste it!! Shipping was very fast and everything came well packed. Close to 2k calories a day. Most others are far less than that. I am sure if your a guy like me(6'3", 240LBS) you will need every bit of 2000 cals. Mostly meatless and "soupish". I am giving this 5 stars for amount of food and calories.

    • I have a food allergy to soy. Do the products contain any soy or soy protein ?

      • Hello OstkUser59836, this product contains no GMO. Thanks for shopping with us!

      • Hello Orion, thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the information you have requested is currently unavailable. You will receive an email notification once an answer is posted. Have a great day.

    • I do not understand your answer to "Rosmar"on 9/21/15. They asked if the shelf life diminishes to 1 year after the bucket is opened or diminishes after the individual packets are opened. Your response was "Yes, that is correct." Which is correct - bucket or packet?

      • Hello Pumpkin, the food does not have the proper shelf life if the pail is not properly closed. This is the only information I was able to obtain from the manufacturer. Have a great day!

    • I ordered 4 of these buckets, but 2 of them did NOT have the lid all the way down on bucket. I am not sure if they were dropped during shipping or what, but when I opened the card board box they came in, it was clear that the lid was NOT fully sealed. Can I press the lid back down to seal them or how should I proceed? Thanks

      • Hello ShoppinQuik, you will be contacted by Customer Care. Have a great day.

    • When were these packaged? 20 years from when?

      • Hello Captain Chaos, thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the information you have requested is currently unavailable. You will receive an email notification once an answer is posted. Have a great day.

    • Description says: Packed in a transportable, watertight 6-gallon pail. Expiration: Up to 20 Years. Sealed/Opened up to 1 year. My question is: Does the shelf life diminish to one year once THE BUCKET SEAL IS BROKEN or is that referring to the individual pouch being opened? Because there's a BIG difference in shelf life. Thanks.

    • When I received my pails, each pail has noticeable dents. Is this because air is removed from inside the pail, collapsing the sides?

      • Hello fearless_leader31, per our contact with the manufacturer, this occurs because all the air has been removed, and when it changes elevation, it sucks in even more, due to the pressure change. I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for shopping with us!

      • Ok thanks guys!

    • Is there any way to get a sample of the food contained in the supply before purchasing the whole bucket?

      • Hello pushin60, we are not able to provide a sample at this time. Thanks for shopping with us! A.S.

      • i have never asked but if you go to the **** web site or any of them, e.i: ****, round mountian, ect. they do sell single packages and i was able to get what is in a pail for about $30 less buying ala' cart. you r free to choose your faves. i prefer round mountian and nat. geo. foods better than wise company. i was glad we tried them before leaving to camp as i would have been very disappointed in the food. there are a few others. go directly to their site . prices are sometimes way below the actual website prices at ****, catching the sales and planning seems to be the key to eating with these pre-fab foods. enjoy!!!! oh, if look at places such as "****" there are things like pancake mix that you can purchase very cheap and make up your own food pail just fine. the single can prices of dried fruit are really reasonable . even for daily snacking.

    • Are the total number of servings for each item in one package, i.e. there is one package of instant potatoes that has 30 servings; or, are their multiple packages that equal the 30 servings?

      • I havent opened mine, but I believe they are all in their seperate bags that are resealable. Also, just for consideration, I contacted Augason Farms and asked how much water is needed for each bucket in order to cook everything. The answer is 18 gallons of water will be needed.

      • generally , they package large servings (4-30) in 1 pak in the pails, the potato soup is always 30 servings per pak. go to the real website such as **** or **** and they have more detail. wise company puts 4 servs. in ea. pak in there "weekend get away" 72 hour box. i would suggest eating all the contents in one sitting as they do not save well. wise co. is my LEAST fave. round mountian taste pretty good. also, some of the things such as dried fruit is cheaper when purchased by the can. even for everyday use, it is less expensive than buying at the local market.

    • Yes, I understand that the expiration is on the bottom of the can. However, *before* I purchase the can, can you tell me what an average expiration date is? I don't want to purchase something that expires in 5 years because it's already been setting for 15. I want to purchase something that expires in 20 years. So, what is the expiration date on the products if I were to purchase them today?

      • Here is a link to the shelf life of our product.

    • What is the expiration date on the products purchased today? (i.e., even though there's a 20 year shelf-life, that when did that "shelf-life" begin?)

    • Do any of the foods contain peanut and/or tree nuts? Or, are they produced on the same equipment as peanuts or tree nuts?

      • Here is the link where you can find all the info:

    • Does the food contain MSG?

      • Thank you for your interest. We are currently looking into this. Your answer will be posted in 1 to 2 business days.

      • Unfortunately we do not know if the food in this pail contains MSG. However, we will research this matter and get back to you.

      • I encourage you to look into hydrolyzed yeast extract. Also autolyzed/hydrolyzed vegetable protein. These are found in every bucket of food produced by any and every company that makes these dried food bucket/pails. These things have the same affect as MSG. The name is different, but your brain won't tell the difference. Your neurotransmitter glutamine (the 'g' in MSG) goes into overdrive when you consume food that has MSG added to it, and also hydrolyzed yeast extract and autolyzed vegetable protein. The reason these things are added to our food is so that our brain will send the signal (glutamine) to other parts of our brain telling us that it tastes good. SO, while there is no ADDED MSG. There ARE other things added that have the exact same affect :/ This is true for every kind of survival food that I've researched. It most likely isn't that big of a deal, unless you're older and are starting to get migraines from MSG, or if you hope to live off this survival food everyday for several months. Then I might be concerned...
