RAID
use it as a raid 5 configuration with seagate 2TB drives connected to an intel raid adapter. Everything works fine. The trays are a little cheap though as it is sometimes hard to put it in. The power button you gotta use a thin tooth pickor a really really small screw driver to turn it onand off. the unit is a little deep for some ATX case and mu 4U short depth rack mount, some cable had to be crushed a little. I suggest test out your onboard RAID adapter using a friend's similar of such item to see if you can use a hot swap. In my case when you turn off All the drives (at this point I am not on RAID yet, just indivual drive) the drive still show up in windows and when you turn it back on BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. But since I an INTEL raid adapter that I don't have any problems with it, onboard raid is disabled.

effecient use of space
This is the best way to create additional space for hard drives. I am currently using it with 5 x 2tb drives without issue. Also it detected 6.0gbps on my sata3 ports fine. The fan can be a little loud but I figure if you have this many hard drives in a pc, then noise might not be a big factor.
