wireless

smithjs from Reno, Nevada, Aug 27, 2008

I had broken all the pins on the PCMCIA slot for my wireless card and my older laptop had no place for an internal wireless adapter, so I thought I would have to buy a new notebook,to be able to go wireless. Fortunately, this simple and inexpensive USB adapter got me back in the game. Windows XP easily "saw" the device and self installed it: I highly recommend using the Windows Zero Configuration Service to manage this type of device. The unit is small enough to be unobtrusive and, with a 90 degree adapter, it lays flat against the back of the laptop. I"ve been up to 500 feet away from my router and signal strength is still 100%, so I think coverage is pretty good. I highly recommend this device as an inexpensive(under $30) alternative to other types of wireless adapters. Also, at 54Mbps, its speed is more than adequate for most needs.

Linux Kernel Recompile May be needed

res0d2t4 from Birmingham, AL, Feb 8, 2010

This wifi adaptor uses the zd1211rw kernel module, which may or may not be available on your Linux system. Unfortunately, if it's not, you'll have to compile the module. But that should be easy enough if you know what you're doing. Oh, and you can apply patches to enable packet injection. This is can be an awkward little thing to use on a Linux system, but if you just want wifi, and are using Ubuntu Karmic, it works out of the box. I haven't tested it with other distros, though.

netgear equipment

smileyy14 from Cedar Hill Mo, Dec 28, 2009

Hate the product, Love overstock, I always find what I need when I shop here. By the way I purchased netgear wireless router and adapter and Netgear has the worse customer service I have ever seen. My computer I an 8gb and runs on vista 64 and the hardware runs on vista 32 and I dont know how to switch it netgear charged 39.99 and 18.00 dollars twice to tell me I need to purchase tech support. But Overstock has never disappointed me and I buy from them all year.
