I Purchased a MyBook External 1tb refurbished external hard drive, and have had no problems with it. It came packaged in a plain box, with a USB cable and AC adapter, no frills. It was preformatted and ready to go, and its software was in a file folder on the drive. I don't use Microsoft Windows, so I can't really speak for the software, but I can tell you that this disk comes preformatted as an MS-DOS file system, so anyone wanting to use NTFS or another filesystem type will need to reformat it to that end. The drive physically is the size of a large paperback book, glossy black, with 2 cool blue lights up the front that signal what the drive is currently doing. I have already backed up nearly everything I have, even from older computers, and expect to have pretty good service out of this drive. All in all, a good buy so far, I think.

This is a good, well made, external hardrive. Myself and a bunch of other people I know have this same type and it works great. No complaints here

I dont use my drive too much, it mostly just holds and stores all my stuff and sits in my room, not plugged into my computer but so far this external has been good to me.

I knew it was going to be a pretty big sized hard drive, but it didn't say that it is not portable, so I am a little bit disappointed.But the design and 1TB size is sufficient.

i just this drive for a month its has so far given me errors 3 times "not enough space on drive" while copying with more then 500MB free space. Then it worked dont know if its this model or refurbished that this is not 100%.

Don't let the refurb badge scare you, Western Digital still supports these drives under their generous warranty offering. I ordered two and both passed all drive diagnostics. They are quick, quiet and cool.

This was easy to set up and so far it is working great. It has trial software included in the start up that if you want to keep it , it will cost you. I tried it and almost lost a lot of pictures. It sincs your choice of files on the computer with the hard drive which is really convienent, but if you deleate them off your computer it will sinc and deleate them off your hard drive too. This doesn't have anything to do with the performance of the hard drive which is great. I just wanted to share this incase someone else tries the software and doesn't realize it will do this. I would recommend this hard drive and feel it is a great deal that I am happy to have.

The drive arrived quickly and was easy to install. It was pretty much just plug and go. Before I bought this device, I noticed that some people complained about or wished it had an on/off switch. This hasn't been a problem at all for me, and the drive will turn off automatically when you unplug the USB cord from your computer. I would definitely buy it again..

Great value, very easy to install, no annoying software resident on drive to complicate operation. Just plug and play, drag files and drop, loads fast and capacity is enormous. Although refurbished, unit looked and performed as new and savings over new was significant. Ordering and shipping was easy and fast. I love Overstock.com!One caution, manual was not included but was easy to access from manufacturer's web site.

The external hard drive is just what I needed. The only problem I have is with the software that is supposed to sync the drive with my computer. I am not happy with it continually popping up and wanting me to use and purchase it. But, guess I'll figure out how to stop it! Meanwhile, I have all our multiple pictures on the dirve including videos and can put it in our fireproof safe for secure safekeeping.

This is an excellent drive and 1 Terabyte at this price can't be beat. I was a little suprised that the backup software on the drive had to be purchased separately and was not part of the package. I already had backup software so I uninstalled the provided software.

I bought the refurbished Western Digital My Book Essential 1 TB External Hard Drive to back up my family's laptops and my desktop computers. It has enough storage space for this purpose and more. I had purchased a 640 GB model My Book from a retail store paying more than I did for this one with the only sacrifice being the absence of the retail packaging. The unit was easy to set up. The lack of a on/off switch on the My Book series is only a minor annoyance that requires the unit to powered down by unplugging the power cord. I have purchased numerous Western Digital internal hard drives for PCs in the past and have found them to be extremely dependable. This unit appears to be of that same high quality.
