A Vivitar goof?
I have used Vivitar products for many years. In fact, owned three 283 flash units. True workhorses in flash photography, outstanding reputation for reliability and endurance. Thus I was optimistic about the DF-383-OLY. Turns out that the unit was either (1) defective, or (2) not totally compatible with my Olympus E-620. Flash exposures were inconsistent, either way over or under, and the longer the flash was on, the more erratic the exposures got. If I zoomed the lens to wide out, the flash results completely blew out the exposure, completely white screen with only a hint of some detail in parts of the photo. In fact, I went to a local Olympus dealer and checked the camera out on an Olympus flash unit just to be sure that the DF-383 hadn't damaged the camera's circuitry. I am very disappointed with this flash and have returned it to Overstock. This is not Vivitar quality as I have previously experienced for many years.
- How did the image on site compare with the actual product? The picture was accurate.
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? I suspect there are some compatibility issues.
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Appeared to be well-constructed.
