The scanner is very reasonably priced. Its portability is excellent. After a few minutes you can get the hang of it on how fast to move it over the scanned surface to be able to get a good image. . Takes a little practice and seems to be more sensitive on high definition settings. In less than one minute of evaluating the scanned images one is able to learn how to move the scanner. I have obtained great results scanning both color and b/w images. It has proved invaluable when the sources of information scanned cannot be removed from a particular area. Images obtained from 3 d surfaces like books have been good and legible. The included software is fairly good. The fact that the equipment does not need to be attached to a computer to be able to scan is an advantage as one can travel lighter. It doesn't work if the microsd is not inserted so be sure to buy one along with the scanner if u dont have one already. Controls are toggle switches very easy to use; included instructions straight to the point. LCD is tiny so if you're above 40 you'll need eyeglasses to see well for the first few scans. You'll memorize the location of the icons for the next scans. It absolutely works. The best thing is the portability. If you are doing document research and taking notes you will love using this. It is a little tricky using it on books but works better then taking handwritten notes on 3x5 cards. I know what to get my college age grandkids. I bought a Micro SD 2G card and don't know yet if this is large enough for large projects but will find out. Neat little product!
This is the best handheld I've ever used. It's portable and doesn't drain the batteries like alot of models out there. Would like to have had the option of an a/c adapter, but you can't always get what you want! When you use the scanner, make sure the paper doesn't fold up as you scan down, and make sure the imaging plate is flat. I tried copying a book, and in the middle, the scanner would not fit on the right side. Options are to turn the book the other way, or scan bottom up, reversing the scanner. I'm really glad I purchased it. I use it with my printer software to view the images. Can't figure out why the ABBYY screen shot was included with it.
- Did the image onsite match the product? Yes
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Yes
- How is the quality of the product? Quality is excellent.
Worth the price for the screen-grab software alone. Does a good job scanning though it is difficult to reach the inside edge of columns in a bound book or magazines that cannot be sufficiently flattened. The leading edge of the case tends to drag, it would be better if the manufacturer would round the edges. Otherwise an OK buy.
I did my homework and this seemed like it would be a great product. However, I was never able to get it to work. The directions were very poor, but mainly it frequently would NOT turn on, no matter how long/short I pushed the button. Also, I bought the chip and followed the directions but could never get my computer to recognize it. I spoke w/ Overstock who set me up w/a conference call w/ the manufacturer, who also did not seem to know a whole lot. The apparatus comes w/a disc that would install only partially, then freeze up my computer, necessitating me to turn off the computer, and then it would not reinstall. They sent me a new disc which did the same thing. The manufacturer agent finally said that the disc wasn't necessary and perhaps was only advertising for me to buy other products...who knows. However, Overstock was great, both Chelsea and Ann W. made the return easy, and i will gladly by from them again...just not this product. I've done without a scanner this long, so maybe I don't really need one after all.
