What could be better?
from Boston, MA,  Sep 2, 2008

I am a bed-ridden invalid who spends a great deal of time reading or watching DVD's. As such, i have used many of these portable players. i have purchased several of them from Overstock.com. they are not intended to be left on twenty-four hours a day, but i confess that this is often what i must do. in addition, they sit too close to an ashtray and in a room with a down comfortoer that releases small bits of floating white goosedown. these small pieces of fluff land on everything. They get caught in fans, in my hair and also on the DVD players. Some of these players do not last long under this sort of duress. Phillps dies fairly quickly but two brands I keep coming back to are Polaroid and toshiba. The toshiba about which i write is wonderful because the picture is fantgaststic, you can run many of the options it has without the remote control and when i fall asleep and leave it on for twenty-four hours, it seems to take the beating. The only thing about this playe that I wish was that it's volume would go a litle higer. When the room is silent it';s not an issue at all, but I'm hedre with some necessary equipment and if i want to catch important nuance in the script or the score i must plug headphones in. Any headphones will do and the recepticl is on the right side, easy to find and use. It is for this reason that i give sound four stars instead of 5. Still, given the beating that I give these machines, this one is fantastic and you realy can't do any better.

Fun!
 from California,  Aug 23, 2009

Hi! Firstly, I'm so technologically-challenged that I just about need written instructions to open a pair of sunglasses, so this DVD player was a welcome surprise! To use; slide in(on?) the battery pack, plug in, charge (minimum 5 hours), unplug, turn on, open disc compartment, put in disc, plug in headphones. THAT IS IT!! The first movie I played, I pushed the 'Play' button; the second, I took a moment & it started by itself! Whee! The appearance is so classy; this would make an excellent and very impressive gift . I agree with other reviewers that the sound could be louder, however, watching a movie at 4:30 AM, with headphones, the sound was just fine. I think that maybe the daily household sounds are what make the difference. There are more controls and buttons and features for the techies to enjoy, and it is quite lightweight. One pleasant surprise was the battery life; I've watched 2 movies, and the battery is not asking for a charge yet.. Beautiful picture, and a beautiful little machine!

Good choice for the money
 from Indiana,  Mar 23, 2009

I must agree with previous reviews of this product regarding the sound quality without headphones. Very low volume and especially hard to hear when there is background noise. However, for the picture quality, size, and clear audio with headphones, I feel for the money, this was a perfect choice. I have never had a Toshiba product so I am hoping this machine will last a long time and hold up.

Don't recommend
 from NV,  Mar 8, 2009

This is quite expensive compared to some I saw later brand new. It will play some but not all my DVDs. The sound when turned to its highest is barely audible. The buttons on the player are black and the writing on the buttons is black, so you just have to learn which buttons do what, as unless you hold it directly under a bright light you can't read it. I am sorry I purchased this, and the return process once it has been opened ends up costing more than it is worth to do so.

Good Quality for the money. The sound volume is not very high, but picture and sound are clear.
