I expected and NEEDED the Coaxial to be the "pin and tighten the screw on connection, which is what existed from my Time Warner Cable Co. AND which is the type of connection I find at my resorts - the reason I bought this DVD Recorder. Without the cable box and its function I have at home, I need to splice into the coaxial cable coming into ALL resorts.

My house wais in the dinosaur age and didn't have DVR capabilities. I was trying to replace our DVD player/recorder and discovered that they're fairly rare now. This Toshiba looked good, and the price was good also. However, after connecting it I tried to record a program on a channel different from the one I was watching. No go. Back to the manual I went, only to discover one sentence: 'This model is unable to record a program on one channel while watching another channel.' (not quite verbatim) What is a DVD recorder for, then? That sentence should figure prominently in the description of the item on the Overstock site. I've been very pleased with everything else I've bought from Overstock, and with the service, i.e., I returned this player and had no problem in doing so. I had also bought a warranty for it and was able to return that. (I've come into this century and we now have DVR capabilities.)

The unit worked perfectly but I returned my unit because it lacked a vhs side and I wanted to transfer all my vhs tapes to dvd.Overstock reps were very understanding about this and so when I returned it I did not have any problems with a refund.I will be reordering from them soon.

I like this product and have recommended it to others. The only fault I have with the DVD/Recorder is that you can not watch one channel while recording another. It records excellent and plays even better.

This unit was easy to install and works fine. I have not had an opportunity to explore all the features. The only useless feature seems to be the instant skip button which purportedly skips forward 30 seconds. The unit works faster if you simply hit the fast forward button several times.

I bought this DVD recorder a year ago and, overall, I like it and it has done what I need it to do so far. Recording is easy, but you do have options to customize. Playback is good, and I love the fact that it can "upscale" the resolution - great for playing regular DVDs on today's 16:9 flatscreens. I love its design, size and appearance. I also appreciate its high quality recording and reproduction, which is probably the most important factor when rating the overall product. A couple of areas where it could be better: its speed - it works at a slower pace than others I've used in the past. Also its remote control - it is not a particularly good design for a human hand. Lastly, both the remote and the menus are not particularly intuitive - for example, writing the title for a recently recorded disc is much more cumbersome than it should be. I also wish you could create chapters at any point in the recording, as opposed to predetermined time intervals. But from what I have seen this is not a function that most consumer DVD recorders offer, anyway.

This recorder is affordable and works well. Record quality for 2hr is good and 4hr mode is acceptable. I wouldn't go any longer than 4hr mode. For the price. this model has been great. I had a more expensive panasonic before that had a little better picture quality and functions, but it had so many problems and defects, I was glad when it finally died.

I spent time researching on line to find a basic recorder. There were not very many "good" recorders without spending a lot. This one got good reviews so I gave it a try. Works great. Some people complained about the installation. Since I was removing a VCR that had finally failed I just matched the hook ups since it was very similar. I did have another person give me a hand. I basically bought this to replace an old VCR to record TV shows. It works great. I have used it for about 4 weeks and have no problems. I have not used the programming option, just push the record button each time for 30 minutes of recording. This is the same as the VCR. Recording in the 4 hour mode makes the quality of the picture a little less than desirable but I am fine with that so I can get more time on one CD. I have deleted and re-recorded without any trouble. I have also played rental CDs in the player. They work fine too except that they all show with the black bands at the top and bottom. I am guessing this is not a problem if you have the wide TV. I am still using an older version, waiting for it to die before buying a new one. Some people commented that the buttons on the remote are small. They are but like anything you get used to it and its not like I use it all day long. You do have to remember to change the TV to the correct mode (ATV1) to use the player. This is a bit of a nuisance because it takes 3 remotes (1 for the cable, 1 for the player, 1 for the TV), not a show stopper. All in all this works great for the money and avoids the expensive monthly fees for being able to record with TiVo or the like. This pays for itself quickly.

Tried on 5 TV 's no picture no anything Instrucations are about the worst I tried to record it formatted the disc is about the only thing I was able to do but don t know if it did it properly only got a blue screen no picture no sound I hope they will take this piece of junk back
