Toshiba 34HFX85 34-inch Cinema Series HD TUBE TV (Refurb)

This is a pretty good TV for a pretty great price. It's got input jacks a-plenty, and has good output. However, there were a couple of issues, but I'm not sure if they were due to shipping or the TV itself. The most readily apparent one is that the built-in speakers didn't work. Normally this would be quite an issue, but I had some external speakers I could use, so I dodged around that issue. The other issue is that the TV seems to have a hard time outputting at 1080i (it lacks 1080p capabilities.) Sometimes it looks perfectly fine, sometimes there's a faint bar or two, and then sometimes it looks like you're swamped by scanlines. The only problem, though, is that again, I don't know if it's the TV's fault or the shipping, so I can't really complain; also, considering my living situation, it would be impractical and painful to have it looked at/fixed. Still, all troubles aside, this is a pretty good TV for what you pay for it.

The picture on this set is not as clear as the standard definition television it replaced. It's as if you're watching through a screen door most of the time (extra bright scenes are not so bad), and the colors are mottled. In addition, each show you watch requires you to fine tune color, contrast, etc. to get the best possible (and still not very good at all) picture. I would not have bought this set if I'd been able to audition it first.
