Best Gift I could give
 from Shawnee,KS,  Aug 11, 2007

I bought this as a gift for an avid movie fan. They have praised this product several times. They are happy and so am I. I kind of hated giving up my secret shopping site, but, I had to share it. Overstock.com you rock!

Symphonic SR90VE DVD/VCR Recorder
from Somerset, KY,  Jul 31, 2007

Please notice that this dvd recorder only records in two formats that are very difficult to find. It also won't record on some of the blank DVD's. Seems like it didn't work about 25% of the time.

Symphonic SR90VE DVD/VCR Recorder
from Vacaville, CA,  Sep 10, 2007

It came really fast! Great value & easy to set up. I purchased the extra protection plan because it's a reconditioned product and I don't know how that is going to work out. I haven't tried the recording function yet - so I can't tell you about that.

outdated
 from Florida,  Sep 7, 2007

This is a slow machine...the dvds are hard to find for it..there is a firmware program you can get from the company. Install that and you can buy a little faster dvd . It is limited to 1x2x4x from the factory, but you can bring it up to an 8x...which is still slow and hard to find...since we now have 8x, 16x, and above...I have spent a lot on dvds I cannot use with this machine. It says you can use an RW dvd...but I havent found one it will use as of yet.

What a Disappointment!
from Aurora, CO,  Jan 1, 2008

I never got beyond what I originally wanted this product for: transfering home vhs to dvd. The machine gave error messages on 9 out of 10 dvd's...didn't matter what brand. I finally got one tape recorded, finalized it (the manual said you must finalize to be able to watch on other dvd players), and...it wouldn't work on any of my other three dvd players! All my players take both minus and plus platforms, so that wasn't the issue. Perhaps it was just a defective unit, but I'm waiting for the return ship label. Maybe I'll just hire someone to transfer the tapes to dvd for me.

RECORDER
from Houston, TX,  Dec 21, 2007

Really a disappointment. Manual had scribbling on it. No disc was in package. Clearly showed signs of having been used. Instructions very difficult to understand. In the past have been very pleased with overstock but this product did not meet their usual quality. Would not recommend to anyone.

Don't Waste Your Money on This One!
from Cincinnati, Ohio,  Nov 24, 2007

I purchased this unit without realizing it is such an older model that it requires a special order upgrade from the manufacturer just to simply accomodate appropriate DVDs (8x) --which are increasingly tough to find, since the more popular 16x and higher DVDs are now apparently the big sellers in most stores. Also, this product is apparently unable to handle the more universally accepted "+ R " or "RW" format DVDs. At best, this is an overpriced VCR/DVD "Player" rather than the decent, affordable "Recorder" I expected to be able to use for dubbing home videos from VHS format to the longer-lasting DVD format. Perhaps my biggest regret is not sending the unit back to Overstock. Com immediately, so that I could instead put the money toward purchasing a more up-to-date, reliable (allbeit more expensive) recorder model. Rest assured, I will not make any similar purchases from this site again.

size listed not right
from St. Louis, MO,  Jul 13, 2007

I bought this unit specifically because of the small size listed and the fact that it is the only unit that would fit in the cabinet sitting beneath our tv. I actually contacted someone on live chat to ensure that the size was appropriate and explained that all other similar units are significantly bigger and that I was skeptical of the size listed. I was assured that the size listed was correct. It is 3+ inches longer and 1+ inches wider than stated. If you are buying this for its compact size, save your money.

Good Deal
from Jasper, GA,  Jul 1, 2007

This VCR/DVD recorder is a good one. The VCR section is up-to-date which is hard to find today. The DVD section is comparable to the current market but has a better price.
