I bought this VCR for the purpose of converting VHS tapes to DVD. Luckily I used 2 different test tapes with random programs on them and it "ate" them both. The player simply stopped playing and when I tried to eject the VHS tape, the tape was wrapped around the inside of the VCR. The tapes were not that old and on a good brand of VHS tapes. The tapes also played ok in my VHS/TV combo several times with no problem, but as soon as I put them into this player, it destoryed them. Returning the VCR to Overstock for a refund.

I received this VCR and hooked it up. It ate the first tape I put in. I inserted another tape...same thing. I tried a pre-recorded tape and...it ate it as well. I was the buyer of the very last of these so I could not get a replacement, but Overstock did refund my money in a short time.

It's impossible to find to find a vcr without a dvd player. When I found this at Overstock, I was thrilled. I've only used it a few times, but so far so good. I mainly use it for recording tv shows and playing them back. It's easy to use and the quality of the sound and picture is good. The price was certainly a plus.. Hopefully it will last a few years.

The VCR arrived promptly and in very good condition. It has worked very well in both playing VHS tapes as well as recording programs over the air. The one drawback to the Sylvania model is its clumsy programming routine. Unlike many VCRs, the on-screen programming times are selected by repeatedly hitting the play or fast-forward buttons to adjust the start and stop times. Most VCRs can use the numerical buttons on the remote to enter in the start and stop times, along with the channel selection. The manual that came with the VCR was not the original, but xerox copies of the manual pages. This was sufficient.
Overall, I am happy with the VCR and would recommend it to someone looking for an affordable device to record TV programs and play their VCR tapes.

When I first started playing tapes in it, it made a sound and the picture jerked every few seconds. After I cleaned the heads with a VHS head cleaner, it works fine. It is a good vcr for the price. I would definitely buy another one of these. The picture and sound quality are good, also.

I have been happy with my first VCR..I bought two as the price was "Cheap". and I like the VCR media..don't know much after that. It was a protective buy so I could stay with VCR/VHS..longer. The one of the two I bought is working very well. Thanks.

Although this item had good video quality and was easy to operate, within one use, I wasn't able to use the rewind function anymore. If I hit the rewind button on the remote, the VCR would start blinking several different lights and would pop out the tape. I would have to rewind the tape on another VCR in order to be able to view what I had recorded.

This is your average ordinary VCR. It's reliable and works very well. Some sound quality issues but perhaps that's just because I'm used to DVD quality sound. It's easy to use and easy to program.

I didn't realize "all it didn't have", like a clock display. It wouldn't work with "my setup".I have "heavy" lighting protection as we've been hit 11 times. I would have had to disable the protection, in order to use it I may need it ,i (someday). For now It's in the closet.. I "fixed" the one it was replacing.

Hi,
It is not easy to get a regular old-fashioned VCR. Got lot of VHS tapes and bit hasitand to get it transferred on DVDs - too expensive and not always reliable. So..... found VCR in Overstock, great price, nice and small unit, standard hook-up, shipped right away. And works excellent. Keep it up, there will always be number of us - old-fashioned guys. Great store and selection.
Thanks
Peter

Instructions in French

This could be a good product - I don't know. I still haven't been able to get sound on a taped show or on a purchased VHS tape (but can get sound for a regular TV show). The problem is that the Operating Instructions are entirely in French, so everything is trial and error. In a week, I am taking the VCR to our country home where the overall installation is much simpler to try and work through the problem. It could be a malfunction in the product itself, however, and I think I am now too late to return it. What a bummer!
