I bought this VCR for the purpose of converting VHS tapes to DVD. Luckily I used 2 different test tapes with random programs on them and it "ate" them both. The player simply stopped playing and when I tried to eject the VHS tape, the tape was wrapped around the inside of the VCR. The tapes were not that old and on a good brand of VHS tapes. The tapes also played ok in my VHS/TV combo several times with no problem, but as soon as I put them into this player, it destoryed them. Returning the VCR to Overstock for a refund.
I received this VCR and hooked it up. It ate the first tape I put in. I inserted another tape...same thing. I tried a pre-recorded tape and...it ate it as well. I was the buyer of the very last of these so I could not get a replacement, but Overstock did refund my money in a short time.
The first one I bought worked great. So I bought another one as a backup. Both work great.
It worked fine for two weeks, then started skippjng speeds in playback. It no longer vwill record in slp mode.
This little VCR does everything you need a VCR to do. Timer for recording-Digital tracking to quickly get you exactly where you want on the tape-One touch for instant recording-Record in SP or SLP speed-Slow motion and pause that really works-Extremely easy set up and operation. Note: It does have mono sound ,so if your hooking up using composite(RCA) cables just use a cheap 1 into 2 adapter(Phillips Part# PH62103)
This VCR is very light weight, easy to install, and can be placed anywhere! The only thing about this VCR, is that you have to arrow to your time and channels you want recorded, since it won't take them by pressing the # key pad.
it could play, but not record cable (which was the primary purpose). Instructions a mish mash, no free support despite claim on box. For the price the cost of returning makes the risk of taking 'reconditioned' products unacceptable.
I am very happy with my new VCR. All features are very user friendly. The quality is exellent. Very useful if you still have VCR tapes of your favorite movies or family videos. Easier to record your favorite tv shows in comparison to the newest versions of recording.
After a weeks recording and playing, the machine needed a cleaning. The cleaning cost me $30.00 so the cost was high to begin with and now buying the vcr was just too expensive. Good machine, but was not cleaned before I bought it. Price too high for the machine.
Love it. Very easy to use and the price was right. Will buy another before all VCR's are obsolete.
The VCR plays well but records sporatically--it is fine for about 3 minutes and then sqeals for a few seconds and then records for a few minutes. I've bought new blank tapes but it seems to happen all of the time. If you only need the machine to play tapes it is wonderful. Since I seldom need to record anything the machine is fine.
This was a refurbished machine so I did not expect it to to be perfect. It did work but the picture was poor quality and jumpy when played back. It was cheap so I did not bother to return it. While I very strongly recommend Overstock.com, I would urge you not to purchase this item.
- How did the image on site compare with the actual product? same as image
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? yes
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Quality not very good.
I searched for months for a VCR and finally found this item. I was so excited, but it turned out to be a piece of junk. I should have listened to other customer reviews. Sadly, a piece of junk.
overstocl had a vcr ---amazing. got it to me quickly-amazing. clarity of sound and picture-amazing. priced-reasonable. product and overstock.com.....amazing
I purchased numerous refurbished VCR's from Overstock - not a one has been any good. I have now given up. I will never purchase any thing refurbished again
1. Only has single audio outputs 2. No s-video jack 3. No way of adjusting tracking
It's impossible to find to find a vcr without a dvd player. When I found this at Overstock, I was thrilled. I've only used it a few times, but so far so good. I mainly use it for recording tv shows and playing them back. It's easy to use and the quality of the sound and picture is good. The price was certainly a plus.. Hopefully it will last a few years.
a GOOD BUY, A BIT DIFFICULT AT FIRST TO SET UP BUT PATIENCE PREVAILS AND IT CAN BE DONE. I HAVE PURCHASED THREE. SUPERB GIFTS
The VCR arrived promptly and in very good condition. It has worked very well in both playing VHS tapes as well as recording programs over the air. The one drawback to the Sylvania model is its clumsy programming routine. Unlike many VCRs, the on-screen programming times are selected by repeatedly hitting the play or fast-forward buttons to adjust the start and stop times. Most VCRs can use the numerical buttons on the remote to enter in the start and stop times, along with the channel selection. The manual that came with the VCR was not the original, but xerox copies of the manual pages. This was sufficient. Overall, I am happy with the VCR and would recommend it to someone looking for an affordable device to record TV programs and play their VCR tapes.
When I first started playing tapes in it, it made a sound and the picture jerked every few seconds. After I cleaned the heads with a VHS head cleaner, it works fine. It is a good vcr for the price. I would definitely buy another one of these. The picture and sound quality are good, also.
