I am an avid swimmer and owned one of the first waterproof MP3 players on the market. When the waterproof headphones on my previous device no longer worked properly after a few years, I decided to try this Augen MD-A525 device because of the greater storage capacity, very reasonable price through Overstock and positive reviews. I purchased it in May 2009. It worked for about 45 minutes of one swim, took only a few minutes of charging for the 2nd attempt, and then completely died. It seems to be a problem with the battery and although I followed the manual exactly, no amount of troubleshooting would revive it. I attempted to contact customer service via email and by phone and received no response. The warranty claims to be for 90 days, but only with all the original packaging and you must ship the device back to Augen the manufacturer at your expense. I travel extensively and am in the US only a few times a year, so the hassle and expense of trying to send the device back after not being able to reach them through email or phone, plus the risk that I'd get another defective unit or nothing at all, didn't seem worth it. I did not want to throw good money (and time) after bad. I will move on to another model, but I am disappointed that my bargain turned out to be a total loss... I would not recommend this device and I would be very wary of doing business with a company (issue is with Augen, the manufacturer, not Overstock.com) with such poor customer service.
I was skeptical, but the player is everything I'd hoped for. Ease in loading the music, comfort when using it, no brainer operation, 7 hours of battery time before a recharge. Had it for 6 weeks and it has inspired me to get to the health club to get my 3 times a week swim in. My only small complaint is that I loaded the music onto it in a certain order and it automatically put it into 'by artist' categories but it is easy enough to move through the next few songs to get to the desired ones even while swimming. My son who has the latest IPOD was impressed with it for what it cost. I'm certainly happy with it.
Worked great the first and only time I was able to use. Headphones had a short in the wire. Very frustrating....I will try another pair.
The swim does not fit comfortably, has poor customer support. Battery failed after 3 charges.
Bought this for my wife. I guess you get what you pay for. It worked for a few months, then up and died. Little red light showed it was taking a charge, but couldn't get it to do anything beyond that. Computer wouldn't even show it was connceted. The players features are extremely basic, but since you are just swimming with it, I guess that's OK. Would have been nice to have playlist support, instead of it just playing everything in order. Fortunately, I bought the coverage plan. Now, I'm only out the cost of shipping it back and the plan itself. Consider a better ("more expensive" that is) player.
I work out in a pool every day, not necessarily swimming, but doing 90 minutes of activities and having some music to help break up the routine is much appreciated. The device holds 2GB of mp3 or WMA files, which at a reasonable bit rate should hold as much music as you could want. I have a lot of digital music, but don't intend to put every kind on here . . . just the upbeat workout kind (although some might prefer the Vivaldi and New Age relaxation style in the pool). My one caveat about the design concerns the band that hold the earbuds to your head. It doesn't adjust, and appeared too small for my noggin when I first tried it, but after a little coaxing around the ears and with the whole of it where it's designed to sit, it fit snugly, but not uncomfortably. The few buttons make for simple operation, and since there's no screen to display any info, you're left to your own devices, or the device's devices, rather, to load songs in a particular alphabetical order if you have a preference for a playlist. (by renaming the files in a numerical sequence, for example). It's easy enough to skip a song with a simple press of the "+" button. The main part of the played hangs around the neck like a pendant, and so remains in easy reach. I could conceive of a player entirely contained in a headset, but this design works rather well for my purposes.I haven't exhausted the charge life of the unit, but then again I will probably charge it after every session or two.The sound is remarkably good using the supplied headset, but beware of getting water into the ear canal, as it quickly reduces the sound quality and comfort of the earbuds. A good seal is vital! Overall, the price is right and the performance more than meets my expectations!
I bought this to bring a little bit of excitement to my lap swimming. I try to swim for 45 mins or so at a time so as many of you know it gets tedious staring at the blue line. I decided to try this out because overall it had pretty good reviews. I am going to be sending this back since I purchased the 2 year service plan. The first time I used it it worked perfectly. Well, other than keeping some water in my ear which muffled the sound on one side. Even that I could overlook. It was great to have music while I was swimming. It was easy to place my songs on the machine and I love how the headphones wrap around the back of my head instead of clipping onto my goggles. That being said, the next few times I have attempted to use it have been a disaster. The first time I recharged the machine I went by the manual exactly. The second as well. Between charging it the night before and getting to the pool the next afternoon the battery had completely died, leaving me to swim my boring laps again without music. I made sure all cords were unplugged so as not to wear down battery life and it still continues to die within hours of charging it. I am very disappointed in the overall quality of this equipment. I plan on seeing what Overstock can do with me so I can get something a bit higher in quality.
I do lap swimming for fitness nearly every day. I've been swimming with a SwiMP3 for about a year, but it has starting having issues (works 4 out of 5 days). I decided to give this unit a try. My first impressions were that it was really not designed to be used while swimming. There were lots of cables that I had to tie up to get the unit to mount on my goggles. The first four laps made with this player were amazing. Great sound quality, very comfortable. But then water got past the headphones and into my ears. Suddenly the great sound was replaced by inaudible low-frequency-only sound.Basically, these things work great if you can get a really good seal and keep water out of your ear. The SwiMP3 doesn't sound quite as good but uses bone conduction (do it doesn't matter if water gets in your ears).I'm still glad I bought the player and will use it for the days my SwiMP3 decides to not work. I may try swimming with a swim cap to hold the earphones in place and keep out water (although I've never worn a cap before). This player would be fantastic for use around water (or maybe doing water aerobics), but requiring air between the headphone speaker and your ear drum really limits its usefulness in fitness or competitive swim training.
I had so many problems with this product. First i could not get music to go on it. Then I had to contact augen to figure that out since there directions were not clear. Also I used it one time in the pool and it worked fine for 5 minutes then I had no sound in the right headphone. After coming home I even tried a different set of headphones and still nothing. So I sent it back but didn't get a full refund.
I swam as a child and teenager on swim team for many years, never had anything like this. Recently decided to take up swimming again on a masters swim team to get back in shape and loose some weight. This is GREAT! The sound quality at times is not the greateset with water going by, especially as I kick off the wall but as far as I'm concerned any music while I am swimming is awesome! Works great to pass the time while swimming. Something to note is that I wanted to load my Ipod music on here and those are MP4 files (i didn't know that) and this is an MP3 player so the music has to be converted...pretty easy to do, but just worth noting because not all of my Ipod music would convert. Aside from that this is a BARGAIN for what you get! Love it!
Works well while working out in the pool. Also used it on the beach, waves were a little rough at times, but great whild walking along the shallow waters.website was easy to navigate, loved the shipping rate, will be a return customer!
I bought this for my husband ;who since he hurt his back has been exercising in the water. He had mentioned how much he woul like to be able to listen to his music. I just happened to be checking out Overstock and saw the Augen, you couldn't beat the price. He has used it several times and absolutely loves it. It's comfortable and easy to use. This was my first purchase from Overstock and am very happy with my purchase and the process. I will definately order again.
It is really waterproof. It is difficult to turn off and I seem to only get one use out of it before I have to charge it again and that is really annoying. I really like the earphones, they are like ear plugs and fit really well.
UNBELIVABLE !!!!!!!!!!MUST GET THIS ONE. I WAS ABLE TO SWIM AND LISTEN TO MY MUSIC.............GET IT GET IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great little product. I had been thinking about getting myself a waterproof MP3 for a while, but bulked at the price of those I had been looking at (Speedo). This item is easy to use, good quality and the headset stays well in place when you swim which is usually the problem with such waterproof player. At this price this is clearly on of the best products on the market. What a pleasure to swim with your music!!Comes with a convenient little storage bag.
