This isn't the first external HDD enlosure I've bought. It is the only one I will recommend! The ad didn't mention it but it comes with a USB Y-cable that in the past I've found to be necessary with many laptops putting out dismal power to their ports. The connector is very (VERY) snug, not a problem but be careful! Screws are supplied for secure attachment between the interface PCB and the drive. This enclosure has a short, (2 inch long) USB connector cable built in so if you aren't putting the drive up out of the way you don't have to continuously fight with the "cord loop demon". All over a great unit. my HP pavilion laptop (Vista) recognized it right away. That was a plus as my laptop is a usually a pain in the a__ when I hook up USB peripherals. Good looking, welll constructed, I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!

As a non-technical person, I figured this whimsical stab at laptop info rescue was bound to be a dead end. However, this enclosure was the perfect box with enough instruction to walk me through the simple process of creating my own portable hard drive filled with the once-thought-lost data from a broken laptop. The drive still works and rests safe and sound in the case. The power running through the provided USB chord provides enough to run the drive and light up the little led light indicator. No features because, well, it is a box that holds a hard drive. Other'n that , worth the foray into simple techdom.
This nice little enclosure so far has performed well for me. It is about as compact as possible, and so far has done exactly what I have needed. Would definitely look at buying another when the need arises.
