Great buy!
from Denton TX,  Apr 14, 2007

This was my first mp3 player to ever own, and I am very happy with my purchase. It has great sound quality, the installation software is a breeze, and it holds just enough songs (and its cute!) Reccommend it for anyone who just wants to have some good music on hand.

Sony NW E0005 MP3 w/FM
from Apex, NC,  Oct 21, 2007

This was my first MP3 Player and I think it is just GREAT! I use it at the gym and have found it easy to use, download songs, and listen to FM stations. The battery life is great and is easy to recharge on my computer. Love the size too! Overall I would recommend this product!

Though there is plenty of space for music I find it more difficult to retreive the specific music I want. The sound though us fine. Earlier and later models are easier to use.

Great for what it is
 from Colorado,  Aug 3, 2010

For what it is, this Walkman is great! It's small and holds a lot of songs. It won't hold ALL of your songs, but it's pretty easy to load so it doesn't really matter as long as there are enough to last for a good long airplane flight or road trip. Plus, I've had mine since 2007. It still works great after three years and I am not gentle with it. Pros: *The menus are clear and easy to navigate. *The buttons are easy to use but small enough and located where they don't accidentally get pushed a lot. *The device is tiny. *Can be used as a regular USB memory stick (very handy) Cons: *The software is limiting. *It won't play while it is charging. (lame) *It won't play an MP3 if you drag and drop - you have to use the software to load it. *Can't figure out how to play by music style on the device. *Because of the shiny case, the display is very hard to read in sunlight.

inferior product
from Durham, NC,  Sep 9, 2009

compared to the previous generation of sony walkman products this spiffy looking little unit simply does not measure up. Everything must be transferred using Sony's proprietary sonicstage software, which is reason enough to give this unit a pass. The one colour display, the counter-intuitive placement of the buttons, and the absence of a voice recorder (previously available) make this walkman very, very unsatisfactory.

Sony NW-E005
from Glendale CA,  Aug 13, 2009

I had one of these before and loved it. Great performance, battery life and easy to use controls. The display is not very good in daylight but this doesn't really matter. As long as you use the 3rd party java file managers available on the web this baby is hard to beat !!!Overstock had it for a great price - I am very pleased

Not Fully Refurbished
from Melbourne, FL,  Jul 19, 2009

While the sound quality is as good as new, the refurbisher did not clear the device from being registered to another Sony CONNECT account, which made it impossible to add it to mine. Since Sony no linger supports the download service, the attempt to register it has blocked one of my five allowable registrations. This affects only purchased music downloaded from Sony. The earbuds supplied are not the ones which came with the unit, but they work well.

More than OK
from San Francisco, California,  Mar 30, 2008

My first MP3 Player and it's a success. Easier to use than some of the prior reviews predicted. It's certainly not an I-Pod, but I wasn't expecting it to be. 2 Gigs is way more room than I need for a very satisfactory portable music library. And, I can transfer books on disc to it, as well. It's a very enjoyable toy. I'll take it to Europe with me later this year for musical entertainment while sightseeing. My only disappointment is the FM tuner. It's easy to use but not suited to moving about. My advice is that if one is at rest and finds a powerful station signal, stay put and it's just fine.

Sony - good quality and good value
from Westerille, OH,  Mar 22, 2008

I only want to say that the tricky part to learn is to turn it off. *It need NOT be on hold mode* and then you hit home once and leave it be it will turn off in 10 seconds. You can see it happen in the screen. It's light weight and only have about 6 buttons to do everything. Make sure you read the manual then you will know how to operate before you get to the gym. I like watching tv on the elliptical at the gym so this works very well for it. I would buy again and it hold many songs - hours. I don't like how it says the battery drains per the condition of the environment. So to make sure I have enough juice for a work out I always charge before I go. It doesn't take long to charge. I've lasted a week before I had to recharge once. I don't consider this product a risk. *Hold is so no other buttons will be hit & change what your listening to while in a wrist band or pocket during a workout.

anyone can use
from Seattle, WA,  Jan 18, 2008

This was bought for my mother who is "technically" challenged. Even she is able to load music and play it without calling me several times a day to ask what to do and how to make it work.

Great Product
 from Virginia,  Jan 4, 2008

I purchased this MP3 Player as a Christmas gift. The recipient is simply delighted. It is very easy to use; easy to download songs and playback, display is easy to read for the size and sound quality is very good for the size and cost of the product. Accompanying earbuds are good quality only, they serve the purpose but are not the most comfortable after wearing for a long time. Charging is easy and fast and the battery life is great. He hasn't used the FM receiver on it as far as I know so I can't comment on that. I would definately recommend this product to a friend.

Sony MP3

This was a gift for my 12 yo who found it very easy to use. The only problem was that the software does not work correctly with Windows Vista - it had to be loaded on a computer with Windows XP.

Excellent MP3 player for the price
from Dallas, TX,  Sep 9, 2007

I had to replace an ipod that crashed at school. I decided I wanted to try an MP3 player, and it is ideal. It is easy to use, and the sound quality is great. I haven't used the FM tuner yet, but I enjoy what I have. The price is excellent, too.
