The MDR-7506 is a staple within the recording, film and live arenas. Due to its low impedance and closed ear design, the headphone does an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Additionally, the closed design helps eliminate "headphone bleed" when overdubbing in the studio. The MDR-7506 is an around-the-ear design and is ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification. 20yrs On the Radio & THESE Were MY FAVE I spent 20 years on the air and I broke out in a cold sweat if I didn't have these. You need to hear every little crackle in your voice when you are on the air, and these were my choice. Like other commenters have said, they may not have a built in mic but if you want and frickin SPARKLING sound in your ears, I can't recommend these highly enough. I like to think of them the way I think of the Subarus I've driven for years and years: They're a little frumpy, but dang if they won't get you up that hill in January!

Best Headphones for under $100 There's a reason Sony has been making these since 1991. Sure, the stock ear pads are kind of crappy (easily replaced), the cord is too long, and it has no mic but the sound is insanely crisp, balanced, and clear.
