It turns out this drive is incompatible with Dell machines. It will work for a few minutes, but, when the drive spins down into low power mode, it will not wake up again (unless you disconnect/reconnect it). I went many rounds with Seagate support on two different drives. Turns out that they have a patch for Win7(to disable the spin down) but not for Win8.Read More
I had another Seagate external drive that lasted two years before it started throwing errors and became unusable. This one did the same thing exactly 13 months after I received it. I thought the first time it was just bad luck - drives do fail. But two in a row, not so much. I'm really disappointed and inconvenienced because I had a lot of data stored on this drive that's lost.Read More

Very easy to use, even for me . . . the non computer user. I bought this to save the files on my mom's computer. My mom used to do electronic scrap booking. She had over 81,000 files on her computer. That amount of files barely put a dent in the amount of space on this hard drive. Great purchase.Read More
Small, quiet (many are not!), sleek device with a large capacity. Let's face it, all these things fail eventually. Irreplaceable files need to be stored on more than one device. This one is no bigger than my first, which only held 500MB. Lies flat on non-skid rubber feet - ready for stacking another one. Best price I've seen for 3T of storage. I have an older, 1T (same brand) that cost almost as much. Quick transfer speed, but that probably has more to do with the new computer than the external hard drive itself. "Plug and play" - easy and straight forward to use. Comes well packaged (double boxed) with all necessary plugs/cables. Recommended.Read More

Ok... well if you look a few questions down you say it requires AC power, both answers cannot be right. As far as I know there are no 3.5" drives that do not require AC power, so it would be great to know the right answer to this, and maybe see a picture with the AC power port if it has one.
Hi staticdream, You are correct, it’s not USB powered. It requires the AC Adapter to power up the external drive. Please feel free to contact us again with any further questions. Thank you for shopping with us!

How to Buy an External Hard Drive
Installing an internal hard drive is often a more complex procedure than most computer users are comfortable with. If you need extra storage space but don't want to crack open your computer's case, buy an external hard drive instead. External hard drives connect directly to one of your computer's ports and allow you to either backup old data or store entirely new files. There are many different specifications to consider when shopping for a new external hard drive.
How to Choose Between an Internal and External Hard Drive
When you're looking to add a new hard drive to your computer, you have the choice of adding an internal hard drive or an external hard drive. Internal hard drives are installed inside your computer, and external hard drives are connected to your computer via USB or Firewire or some similar connection. External hard drives typically have their own case, called an enclosure; this enclosure is what allows the hard drive to connect to your computer's USB or Firewire ports. If you were to open the enclosure, you would probably find a hard drive identical to a typical internal hard drive.
Top 5 Things to Back Up on External Hard Drives
One of the most convenient ways to back up files is with an external hard drive, which allows you to back up your computer's internal hard drive to a drive that won't be affected by internal system failure. External hard drives are basically portable hard drives as well, which means you can move large numbers of backup files easily. A vital part of computer security is making backup copies of your files, so when you're backing up your important files, make sure you include these top five types.
How To Know if Your Computer Needs an Additional Hard Drive
As software becomes more complex and more multimedia-based content becomes available on the Internet, the space on your hard drive can fill up quickly. If you create your own content, such as videos or music, sufficient hard drive space is absolutely necessary to back up your data in case it is ever lost or compromised. Having enough space on your hard drive also allows the computer to run more efficiently, as performance can be compromised as free hard drive space becomes scarce. This article will help you determine how much space is left on your hard drive and whether you need to add an external hard drive to your system. If an external hard drive is necessary, you will also learn what to look for in one.
How to Use Multiple Hard Drives
There are distinct advantages to using multiple hard drives on a single computer. More hard drives allow you to store more programs, photos, music and other data. A second external hard drive or a backup internal hard drive can save your data from being lost if your other hard disk fails. Here are some steps for installing multiple hard drives on the same machine.
FAQs about PlayStation 3

With a wide selection of exclusive PlayStation 3 games, a built-in Blu-ray drive and Wi-Fi connectivity, it's a hard video game console to beat. If you're considering the PlayStation 3 console, answers to these frequently asked questions may help you learn the details about the system.
5 Computer Case Features for Your Ideal Machine
While other computer components are more essential to performance, your computer case often is a limiting factor when it comes to which types of hardware you can install in the first place. The right features can open up more options for you in selecting cooling systems, setting up hard drive arrays, and fitting in expansion cards. Here are five of the more essential factors to watch for when selecting a computer case for your next custom PC build.
How to Pick a RAID Level For Your Hard Drive
Perhaps you've heard that RAID can be used to increase the performance of your hard drives. Or perhaps you've heard that you can use RAID to increase the reliability of your hard drives. Both of these are possible, thanks to the various ways that you can use RAID in your computer. Some RAID configurations are targeted towards enterprise environments that require the highest fault tolerance (at a high cost), but some of the RAID levels can be used by home users, using inexpensive equipment, to achieve significant gains. The first step to using RAID is to decide which RAID level you want to use. Each RAID level defines a different configuration of how data is read and written to the hard drives and what fault-tolerance features are employed; for example, one RAID level may just provide higher performance while another level will also provide fault tolerance. When it comes to RAID, most of the work is done by an expansion card called a RAID controller; this controller may be a stand-alone card, or it may be built into your computer's motherboard. Many motherboards include a controller that can do either RAID level 0 (also called RAID0) or RAID 1 and possibly a few other RAID levels.
Best Cell Phone Features
With the bevy of options and features now available in cell phones, it's easy to find one perfect for you. Before you begin searching for your next cell phone, take the time to think about what you need your phone to do. Below, you'll learn the best cell phone features. Camera: Cell phone cameras can be quite handy when you happen upon a special moment without a regular digital camera on hand. Most camera phones don't take very high-resolution (usually 1.3 megapixel) pictures, but there are some that top out over 3 megapixels. Some cell phone cameras even have small flashes. If you want a camera phone, find out if it comes with the cable and software to connect to your computer, so you don't have to spend extra for a separate program. Video: Usually, camera phones that play video will also record video. Some non-camera cell phones also play video. Look to see if you can transfer movies from your phone to your computer. Web browsing: Many cell phones let you connect to the Internet. Most use Wireless Access Protocol (WAP), which allows the phone to connect to pages specifically designed for cell phones. There are many phones with full browsers, however, that allow you to view regular Web pages. Bluetooth: Bluetooth is a technology that allows you to transfer data wirelessly between devices. Wireless cell phone headsets use this technology, and it can also be used to transfer pictures, ringtones and other data between two cell phones or between cell phones and computers. Games: There are cell phones out there that have been designed with the gamer in mind, allowing you to download games that would compare to those found on a personal gaming system. Office software: Most cell phones feature some sort of a calendar and alarm. You can set a wake-up alarm or you can make it alert you for your next appointment. Other phones allow you to make notes for each appointment. Some let you create documents that can be transferred to your computer's word processor or spreadsheet. MP3 player: More and more cell phones are also MP3 players. Check to see if you need special headphones for listening (and if they're included), and pay attention to the phone's memory capacity. Memory expansion: Some phones, usually video or MP3 player phones, feature memory card slots, so you can save pictures, music or other files on removable flash memory. Voice dialing: If you absolutely have to use your cell phone while driving, you'll want one with voice dialing. The phone recognizes the contact you speak and places the call, allowing you to keep your eyes where they belong: on the road. Buy Cell Phones Back to Guides Directory Buy Cell Phones
