Scanner
from New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada,  Oct 8, 2009

Our scanner arrived quickly and I was pleased with the tracking process as well. this was my first online purchase and was not sure what to expect. I recieved emails confirming my order and another to let me know the item was shipped. This communication made me feel at ease with ordering a product online. The scanner was exactly as described. It dones exactly as promised. My reason for only two stars for installation is for users the are not computer experts. the manufacturers instructions were difficult to understand and after many attempts I could not get the software loaded. The manufacturer was very helpful once I sent them an email for assistance. They were prompt with the reply and the link they sent me got the scanner up and running. Would recommend this product with a caution to novice computer users that they may need assistance with installation.

SVP Digital 35 mm Film Negatives and Slides Scanne
from Decatur, GA,  Jun 30, 2009

I bought this scanner to transfer my slides to digital. Initially, I was using my desktop with Windows Vista and was not getting good results. I have a laptop with Windows XP and setup the scanner on it. It worked great and I was able to transfer around 1000 slides in 2 days! I took a lot of slides of the Northern Lights and some night views of Alaska and they were harder to transfer because the program would try to make them lighter than I wanted them. But, the program will lighten the slides in stages so I was able to copy the picture when I was satified with the amount of light. I highly recommend this scanner if you use XP. Vista is supposed to work but I had too much trouble and didn't want to take the time to troubleshoot.

slide scaner
from Vonore, TN,  Jan 31, 2010

It works. But, it tends to lock up the computer easily and slides not perfectly exposed seem to be made worse when scanned into the computer. On the other hand, I have never tried another similar product to compare.

Slide scanner
from hingham, Ma,  Jan 9, 2010

I bought this scanner as a gift for a friend so I don't have personal experience using it. We spent a great deal of time investigating various slide scaners and this machine seemed to do more for less . We felt that we got a great value for the price. Our friend seems very happy with the results - converting her slides to digital format.

Review of slide scanner

An excellent value; I installed it today and have spent the last several hours uploading slides from my tours in Vietnam and Thailand. It was exactly what I wanted and needed--simple to use. mike

Lighting too basic
 from Denver,  Dec 25, 2009

This is a really basic unit for scanning slides and negatives. Scanning unit adjusts brightness on it's own which is unfortunate. When one puts the item in to be scanned the unit adjusts the brightness in segments and it is up to the user to catch an image of the item when they believe it to be the right level of brightness. If the timing isn't right on the user's part then they have to pull the frame holder out and start all over again by refeeding the frame holder and letting the unit adjusting the brightness. If this unit had a manual way of adjusting the brightness vs. the unit doing it on it's own, I would probably give this a 4 - 5 rating

SVP 35mm slide scanner
 from California,  Nov 25, 2009

for the price this thing is great. Takes between 5-8 seconds to scan each slide at 1800dpi. Of coarse a few more to load ech slide on to the tray. I couldn't tell a great deal of difference between 1800dpi and 3600dpi. Might had something to do with the quality of the orginal slides though.

The software keeps locking up. Can't find a website that allows me to update my software to see if it is a incompatibility with Vista. Right now, I have rebooted my computer, started scanning and it won't allow me to scan slides.

scanner
 from Gun Barrel City,Texas,  Sep 29, 2009

This is my 2nd scanner. The first worked for about 2 weeks. I returned the first one and asked for a new one ,but they credited my card, minus the shipping, which I do not agree with. With that said I ordered a new one ,and received it right away.Very happy with overstocked .com.

Very Helpful
 from Vermont,  Sep 12, 2009

Once I got the hang of it, it was fairly simple to convert tons of old slides taken over forty years ago by my husband's father onto the computer and then a CD. I can make copies and then send them to relatives. Haven't tried the negative option yet but it looks pretty straightforward. It gives the option to mirror image, rotate but it does not improve the original like some photo programs. I just copied it onto one of my programs and it helped somewhat. For the money, I would recommend it.

slide scanner works great
from Portland, OR,  Aug 30, 2009

I am now able to quickly convert hundreds of 35 mm slides into digital images for use in ppt presentations and just to quickly organize those old slides. This product was easy to install and works just as it should.

Film scanner
from Mobile, AL,  Aug 27, 2009

This scanner does the job. The clip that the slides go in gets stuck sometimes as you slide the clip along. Other than that, it works well enough. I've only scanned one tray of slides so I'll get a better feel for it as time goes on. Wish it had a zoom lens, but satisfied all the same.

simple

I have been able to scan all types of slide including ekachrome. In fact it will define old slides even better. I first clean sldes with micro fiber clother before I scan. I use Picasa to do the cropping. It is fun to see these very old slides come to life.Only one thing is that I cannot use it with my older dell inspiron/1150 laptop

Amazing!
from Phoenix, AZ,  Aug 16, 2009

Never even knew a product like this existed...but thanks to Overstock.com...I not only know, I own one. I had been searching a long time, for a scanner that would digitize old negatives. OUr negatives were family negative form the 50's, 60's 70's * 80's. Literally hundreds!! All the scanners I had found were $350 + ,and included copiers, flatbed scanners, etc...stuff I did not need. Nor did I need another bulky printer on my desk. This SZVP Scanner is small, easy to start up and works WONDERS! Slide the film cartrtidge in and VOILA! The SVP scans in the pic, corrects the images, and you are able to save to a folder on your PC immediately. It is comaptible with virtually al of your editing programs...(I use MS Picture & Picasa - among many others) I was able to go through hundredes of negatives in only one afternoon.HIGHLY recommend this. Dont lose your old negativfes, or pay outrageous prices to have them developed. Do it yourself! The price for this scanner is just too amazing to consider others...and the quality is truly wonderful!
