powerful device easy to use
from houston, texas,  Nov 14, 2011

i bought this over an ipad mainly because it has a much greater storage capacity. it cost a little more than an ipad and some of the other tablets out there but its worth it. its super fast, lightweight, and it runs windows seven. the battery life could be betteer. i can get about 3 hrs of video streaming. the battery last longer if u turn off the wifi when your not using the internet.

I'm impressed
 from Idaho,  Feb 5, 2012

Although I've had countless desktop, laptop and netbook computers in the past I've never delved into the tablet PC's until now. I was looking for a tablet type computer that was not as restrictive as the iOS and Android units. I needed something I could use as a stand-in for my desktop and laptops by being able to use Office and other programs that I use every day rather than trying to find a work around on another type of operating system. After much investigating on the web I ran across the Skytex Skytab 970 that seemed to have everything I was looking for. It has the Windows 7 operating environment, 2GB of DDR Ram and an honest to goodness 320GB micro hard drive with some serious storage capacity. I want to be able to have my Excel spreadsheet applications with me on a smaller and more convenient machine than a laptop. Is it really that? Or is it I just wanted to be able to justify another gadget toy? Maybe a little of both. But my purchase of this Skytab 970 is one of my best decisions in a long time. Maybe because I've never played with an Ipad so have nothing to compare it to but the navigation around the Skytab in Windows 7 is pretty natural when you get the hang of it. I purchased a $15 capacitive touch stylus and that made things a LOT easier to navigate rather than using my big fat clumsy fingers, although they are still an option. I've shown other Ipad users my new gadget with the two USB plugs and they are very jealous. I can plug in a wireless keyboard/mouse if I want to and use it just like a bigger machine, although that is not necessary and kind of defeats the purpose of having a tablet PC. I can also transfer files or programs with a USB jump drive. Try doing THAT with an Ipad. The unit seems solidly built too. There is a little heft to it which is okay with me as I see the heftiness as equaling "well-built." However, if you are looking at one of these to substitute as a Kindle or similar unit, just to read books, I would recommend against that as the heftiness will get to you after a while if you are just using it to read from. The handwriting recognition of this little unit is nothing short of amazing. I have horrible handwriting and yet it can still accurately decode my chicken scratches 98 percent of the time. If you wrote normally on this unit I dare say it would decode it accurately 100 percent of the time. The integrated virtual keyboard is very handy and handles quite well especially with a stylus as I described above. I've found that the battery will last up to about 4 hours depending on what you are doing with it. The back gets a tiny bit warm which is to be expected but certainly nothing that will bother you while holding it. And even with the actual hard drive inside it is absolutely silent. I was eying some of the other tablet PC's from other makers but it seemed like when you got into the Windows environment with any storage or capabilities at all the price was over $1000 and I just could not justify that. When I saw this unit with a price tag of under $600 I thought that was more like it and decided to jump. It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter which includes non-expiring scaled down versions of Word and Excel which will probably be all most users will need. However, I loaded mine up with Office 2010 Business with all the goodies including OneNote and it handles it just fine. OneNote is a slick program that was made for tablets in the fact that you can use it to scribble down handwritten notes. It will also handle youtube videos and Netflix with aplomb as well as the variety of computer based books such as Kindle. This Skytab tablet PC by Skytex truly scratches all the itches I have for a tablet PC and I can certainly recommend it to about anyone who needs a handful of computer power in a small package. It comes with everything you need to get started including a wall charger and a sturdy stand. You would think they could have also included a stylus but that was not a deal breaker for me. Pro's: Just the right size, adequate battery life, nice screen display, powerful enough to do most everyday computing jobs. Cons': I can't really think of any right now. It's a little heavy if you are just going to use it for a Kindle.

Horrible Product
 from Arizona,  Feb 9, 2012

The actual product was used and defected, twice.....No, product was not operational and the second product sent was used, with an actual personal picture of a person who it belonged too before as a screen saver.....if you can believe that!! Horrible quality, will never purchase a skytex product again, thank goodness I received a refund. I often wonder if we exchange a product, do we actually receive another new product, guess not!! This is very scary as a consumer of electronics!!!
