Can't Get Enough of this Lens!!
I had done lots of reading on this lens before I bought and debated a long time. The 120-400 is certainly much lighter, but the ability of a 50-500 was too much to turn down. Being able to shoot wide and then super zoom in one lens is spectacular. While the lens at 500 may not be as tack sharp as a Prime, I'm still thoroughly happy with it to date. I'll be using it on several upcoming trips (Iceland and Africa) so it will certainly get its workout (as will I in carrying an 8 pound lens). But the test shots I've used it for to date I've been totally happy with. I've only shot handheld, and the IS seems to work quite well and keep shots sharp.
