WHAT A GREAT SPEAKER WITH A GREAT PRICE...OUTPERFORMS SPEAKERS COSTING MUCH MORE...THEY ARE WIRED FOR BI-AMPLIFICATION (THEY DON'T COME WITH ANY INSTRUCTIONS)...TWO PAIRS OF BINDING POSTS ARE CONNECTED BY GOLD PLATED JUMPERS SO THE WOOFERS CAN BE POWERED BY A SEPERATE AMPLIFIER WHICH WOULD ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR A SEPERATE POWERED SUB-WOOFER...THEY ARE VERY EFFICIENT, HAVE EXCELLENT DYNAMIC RANGE AND SOUND BEAUTIFUL WITH MY 100 WATT (RMS) RECEIVER...THESE SPEAKERS BEG FOR POWER AND I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF FED 800 WATTS, THEY COULD CERTAINLY BLOW YOUR HAIR BACK AND PROBABLY RATTLE THE NEIGHBORS WINDOWS...IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GREAT SOUNDING SPEAKER AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE, THESE BEAUTIES CAN'T BE BEAT (NOTE: IN READING THE DESCRIPTION I ASSUMED THE WORD "CHEERY" FINISH WAS A MISPELLING FOR "CHERRY WOOD"...THEY COME IN BASIC BLACK) THE VERY SHEER MESH SPEAKER COVER IS REMOVABLE, BUT IT ALSO ALLOWS ALL OF THE SOUND TO COME THROUGH PLUS THEY SHOW OFF THE EIGHT DRIVERS WHICH MAKES FOR A VERY IMPRESSIVE LOOK...I WOULD CAUTION USING MORE THAN ONE PAIR FOR THE FRONT/MAIN SPEAKERS AS THE 6 OHM RATING WOULD CREATE A STRAIN ON MOST AMPLIFIERS & RECEIVERS...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM... (I LOVE MINE!!!!!)
These speakers ARE great... for their price. Unfortunately everything is as it seems in the wide world of electronics. These speakers have great sound quality, quality hookups on the back with copper leads. But guess what. No magnetic shielding. If you place near your tv. whatch out! magnetic field... and its huge! So be careful when you buy this for smaller areas.
We are really enjoying these speakers. They are a supprisingly good quality speaker for the low price. The speakers shipped right away and the packaging was perfect! We hooked them up easily and have been enjoying them ever since.
I noticed one person above stated that his system shut off at full volume. The reason for this, chuck, is your amplifier doesn't put out enough power for them and it shuts itself down.Anyhow, I have a pair of these and a pair of the 404s for a couple of rooms in my house. They were both pretty cheap. Both SDATs are pretty good speakers for the price. They aren't exactly a klipsch or something like that, however if you don't have the 2000$+ to spend on a system I'd highly recommend SDAT, the sound will rock anything else in its price range.
I have these pair of speakers setup as my fronts. I have them hooked up to a very powerful amp that feeds these guys 500 watts each. They sound very goodwhen playing classical music. Its like having an orchestra in my own house. The lows are pretty impressive as well. We had our neighbors complaining within a few hours...their walls were rattling! These are great for the amount that you spend, Im very happy with the purchase.
Overall I am pretty satisfied with these speakers. You can't beat the price. They are 6 ohm rated so be sure your receiver is set up to handle that. As far as the gold binding posts on the back, I removed them and did not notice a diifference in sound. Speakers sound great at low to mid volume with my 115 watt rms receiver. Very good bass and highs. A word of caution though, unless you have a very powerful amp, 200 rms or higher, you may want to stay away from these. If I turn it up to loud it starts to get distorted because my amp isn't powerful enough to keep up with the speakers. Other than that very good deal for the money, just have a very powerful amp
An excellent replacement for my Wharfdales, one of which just stopped working. The SDAT SB-E880 floor standing speakers aren't made of fancy wood, or shaped like an egg to magicaly direct and reflect the sound waves... they just handle a lot of power and sound fantastic! I would like darker screens as I don't find the cones of the elements a decorative plus, but for the money.... I'll live with them.... until I get motivated to recover them with a darker mesh.
I bought these speakers and i completely love them!!! For the price you cannot beat them and the sound is great. My amp is nothing special but it holds its own. They sound great and i love mine!! Great buy!!
work fine hooked up to my very old fisher 250T sound better then the Bozaks i had before the kid ran his gatuar through them and blew out the woofers. These speakers have a lot of preseancs and great clearity having been aircraft mech for 40 years hearing not as good great as used to be..so very very pleased with these units.....len
5 stars for value. 4 stars for overall quality. The truth is that they are better than expected. I am using them for listening to stereo (Jazz/Classical) and not for home theater. They definitely need sub if you have a big room and requaire powerful amp to drive them. It is sounding GREAT with my Beringer equalizer and Polk Audio sub. You won't find anything that sound so sweet at this price. Tell you the truth I was skeptical but I am very happy to have taken the chance.
You cannot get a better deal on speakers! I ordered a pair to go along with two other SDAT floor speakers I have and I am really satified. I power the speakers with a Pioneer A717 Reference Stereo Amp and I'm sure I could blow them up at full power but I get little distortion at 3/4 full power. About all my ears can handle anyway. Buy with confidence you will be satisfied.
I love these speakers. The lower bass is a little odd sounding but otherwise it hits HARD. I bought these along with the 400 watt hifi SDATS for 4 speakers total with a 2k watt amp and play it for my frat parties. It is a huge hit and the price cannot seriously be beat. I can see that a discerning audiophile would not like these but for the rest of the 95% of the population who cant tell or who prefer power over miniscule details, these are for you. I am considering buying another two and a sub for MEGA POWER BASS DELICIOUSNESS!
I don't know why everyone bad mouths SDAT. For the money, they can't be beat. If you have enough power to push these 50 pound monsters, and you equalize out their short comings, they are absolutely fabulous. Base is generally pretty good, but if you like more, punch up your 45-120 Hz frequencies on your equalizer. BOOM! Great bass. Same for the highs. Place the speakers in the corners of the room facing outward for correct dispersion and you have a cost-effective system for listening to music. I found them to be an excellent value proposition. If you are an audiophile, pardon my French. Buy a set to put outside on the patio of your veranda while you sip a fine cabernet and watch the sun set. For me, they are great inside speakers that fill the room with quality sound even if equalized flat, but great if you punch up the frequencies you want to here at a higher db level.
The speakers sound great and demand a lot of power but however if you are a bass freak like me you will still need a sub woofer of greater magnitude but the speakers are great
i just recived these speakers and hooked them up. there nice yet when i opened the package one of the speakers top right coner was slightly crushed maybe due to handling but the way these speakers look is phenominal.
so very pleased with the sound of these very attractive speakers, a must buy............hooked them up myself...
According to the company these speakers should handle 800 watts. After installing them i couldn't even turn my amplifier up half way. All in all they sound good at lower volumes, but if i try to turn them up for a party they just keep shutting off.
