I own 3 RIO Carbons and one iPod. I find RIO user interface design to be more intuitive than that of iPod. It integrates easily with Musicmatch, which I use to manage my music. Over all very happy with Rio. Have not had any problems in last 3 years or so. I would higly recommend Rio to anyone who does not need more than 5-6 GB memory.

Considering the current prices for similar units, the Rio Carbon is well worth the money. It is easy to upload and operate. The case is cumbersome, but all in all a good unit.

I am not tough on my equipment but, If it doesn't have at least one dent in it, it is still in the box. It seems to be standing up to physical abuse so it is tough. Features, well first buy your own ear pieces. The one that comes with the player are killers. I was only able to download about 800 song, which isn't too bad but not as many as I was hoping for. I had the Rio Cali and loved it, except it didn't hold enough songs. With the Rio carbon you give up the radio tuner. I do like the fact that you can recharge the battery.

I had the older version of this mp3 player. I love the interface. I HATE ipods, so i was excited to see a larger version of my old one. however, it does random things like turn off in the middle of a song, or start a new genre. its odd. and that can be annoying when i can't access the player right away like when i'm riding my motorcycle. other than that, the player is excellent. easy to use, good buttons, various versions of the "lock mode" which make it convenient.

I LOVE it!!! The bookmarking capability is wonderful and i find it is much easier to use than the Ipod that I used to own. The fact that you can just drag and drop files onto it and play them makes this player supreme over the other players I have read about.

This was a gift, and it was a sucessful one. The first great thing was the beautiful way this piece of technology felt in my hand, It stores a magnificant amout of my music. It goes where I go, and the sound is good. The very trite but true expression that one would have to pry it out of my cold dead hand applies to my Rio Carbon. I heartily recommend this to anyone who likes for his technology to fit.

This is a very good MP3 player. The software is easy to use and offers many good options such as sending many files to it at once and assigning properties to multiple files at once also. It can be used as a flash drive too. My son has and ipod, and I think he's a little jealous... I would recommend this player over an ipod. The storage capacity is just awesome and it came pre loaded with some interesting stuff.

The Rio is a very good value for the price, you can't get 5gb for this rice and have great sound, good battery life and easy to use. This mp3 player is great. You get 5gb of space that will hold over 900 songs and great sound and it's easy to use. At first you have to play around with the program and once you read some of the help advise it has, well you are on your way to enjoying your music. I got this for my daughter because I didn't want to spend so much money on a ipod like mine. She is operating it and filling it with her music. She loves it. Now I want one of these too.

I purchased this as a birthday gift to myself. I wanted something easy to use, with lots of storage, that was compact in size and looked "cool." This is definitely it. The sound quality is great, even at full volume. With 5GB of storage, I'll never run out of music. Thanks, again, Overstock.com for another great deal.

this is the second rio carbon I own. the first one broke when I dropped it. I really like it. once one is used to the controls, it's real easy to handel. downloads are fast and music quality is great. I use it while riding my motorcycle and in the gym. I can only recommend this player.

For the price I paid for it, it's awesome! I bought it for my wife for her birthday and she loves it. Why spend $200 on an iPod when you can get this at a fraction of the price and all the same quality?

Other than the volume control potentially breaking (which I have fix previously on someone elses unit) the design appears to be sound. I have had an issue with the voice recording, but I think that was because I had filled up most of the available memory.

The First Unit I Received Failed after about a week, but Overstock.com replaced it and payed the postage both ways. It's a great little MP3 Player.

Thank you for the previous reviews. It helped me in deciding my purchase. I bought a refurbished Rio Carbon (i call it my Rio-Pod) in July of 06. I think it's great. It is very easy to download and delete music onto it. I did not use the Rio disk it came with. I d/l through Windows Media Player. I also d/l music from a Mac computer very easily. For the price/ holding capacity you can not beat it. I have right now about 500 songs on it (some over 10 min) and have 3gb free. Battery life is good. Features are nice... you can shuffle/ play by artist/make a booklist(folders) of a group of songs. It has an equilizer option of pop/ church/ disco etc... It is small in size and comes w/ earbud type earphones. Nice product. I recommend.

Ordered Rio Carbon for my fiance's birthday, received MP-3 player and had problems. The Rio would not take a full charge, my computer would not recognize the Rio MP-3 player (confirmed my computer OK by hooking up my camera, computer had no trouble recognizing camera) so Rio was useless. I would have prefered money back however in small print, Overstock only allows you to return electronics and then they "test" your electronics "30-day manufacturer warranty" (return policy on website deceiving, not very clear). I guess if they believe that the electronics are faulty, they send you a replacement, because they sent me a new one. In the meantime, you have now had to pay for shipping 2X's (much more the second go around). Now my fiance's new Rio took a full charge, he can now download music and listen however the website says the Rio Carbon will hold an 20 hours of batterly life for a single charge...not so, maybe 3 hours??? Even so, we are going to keep it , hopefully nothing else will go wrong (you only have 20 days from ship date to notify Overstock to send back) however, we will never purchase electronics off Overstock again, it's not worth the hassle.

This mp3 player worked fine at first. It was somewhat difficult to use compared to the ease of organizing and transfering music with an ipod. It freezes daily and constantly says updater. You get what you pay for, i'm going back to apple.

I've had the Rio Carbon for about a year and I couldn't live without it. It is a nice compact size and the audio quality is great. The price was a bit higher when I bought it but it was so worth it. The software it comes with looks simple to use but it is a bit tricky. Creating and managing playlists for the mp3 player takes some work. I still haven't managed to figure out how to sync it so it downloads new songs in my library automatically, thought it will supposedly do that. The battery is still going stong 1 year later - I have the backlight turned off 99% of the time to conserve the charge. Another quirk: if you try and charge it with the power off, it will freeze up. It also restarts itself once in a while for no reason, but it doesn't seem to be a problem other than the date and time reset as well (slightly annoying). I am very glad I went with this over the ipod mini - I feel as though I definitely got a good bargain.

I had purchased about 5 of these to give away to my nieces and nephews. They all love them. I have one and find it easy to use. The sound quality is great but you have to take into consideration where and how you are downloading from. I purchased a Sony headset for $10 and it makes a big difference with the sound, the headset that comes with it is not that great. One problem with this MP3 is that the volume control can break if you are not extra careful. One of my nephews broke his but was able to keep using it with a headset that have volume adjustment, which I got for less than $10. The size is also a plus, so small they fit in your pocket. I did purchase a video creative and I haven't been able to get used to it so I am selling it. I went back to my Rio, I do love it, it doesn't have the limitations of the Mini ipod and it has more GB, At one time I fill it up with a little over 3,000 songs (CDs downloads) I also had downloaded books from the library website (for free) and they work great. I have a cousin that owns a Lyra and it gets very hot when using and charging, It also takes for ever to download, unlike the Rio. I highly recommend the RIO CARBON. This here is a great price and it comes with a case that protects it.
