The speaker volume control was so large that it didn't fit into a standard double electrical box. The front mounting screws were sized for an electrical box but the circuit board was too large. I already had another volume control working for other speakers, from a different manufacturer that fit into the box just fine. Fortunately, the box in my wall was plastic and I was able to cut a slot, top & bottom with a dremel tool and that allowed the volume control's circuit board to slide in. Since this is low voltage, modifying the box is not a problem except for work of having to do it. If the box was metal, I wouldn't have been able to use this volume control. I can't see why they would design a volume control this way.
