    • Amazing clean punchy bass!

The amp on my 1995 Velodyne VA-1012 gave up a few weeks ago, so I started researching, and researching, and researching. Our new home has a large 6500 Cu Ft great room (kit, din, living). This complicated things as audiophiles said I need at least 2 15" subs. WHAT?!? So if I need two they will need to be small = sealed = expensive, which is not gonna fly with Mrs. After a few weeks of agonizing over what to do, I stumbled on the PA-150. What a find indeed! And Overstock was the best price and they are an Authorized Dealer for PA! I decided to roll the dice and ordered this Tuesday night and it arrived Friday. It was dropped shipped from Premier Acoustic's warehouse in Las Vegas, NV, so it was fairly close to my location (~650 miles), still that's dang fast to process the order from Overstock to PA and get it on a UPS truck. And UPS to my location is usually SLOW, so I wasn't expecting it until later this week. Luckily my lovely wife was home as a signature IS REQUIRED even if you already have a signature on file with UPS, so if you want to get it on the first attempt, someone needs to be there. The box was HUGE and had a little damage to it (couple small holes on near the edge), but it was double boxed and the unit was securely held in the box with 1 to 2 inches of space between it and the box. It was wrapped in a nice heavy cloth bag. I was able to lift it myself (after making a slice down one side and across the bottom so it opened like a door) and carry it into the living room. I do recommend that you have someone help you. I was far to excited to wait for a helper. It's about 80 lb and not easy to carry. I removed the bag...WOW, this is really nice looking I thought. So I plugged in it and had to way until yesterday to us it as it we late and past my bed time :-). Saturday morning I turned on the HT system and flipped it to FM radio with excited anticipation of a child on Christmas morning. Hum...not too bad...actually pretty good. It was time, however, to go though my HT Av Onkyo SV-605 speaker set up and adjust the volume, phase, and crossover. The sub and system sounds incredible with the SUB crossover at 80, phase at 90 (middle), volume a little over 4. and my smaller speakers set to normal with crossover at 80. I also set the Eq to manual and increased the bass and treble a little. It sounds best this way vs. off, or even Audyssey. Wow! Is all I can say. The bass is clean, tight, and punchy. It blends in with great with my HT speakers. It fills our great room with plenty of bass, so I guess I'm not a real audiophile, which is good as I don't think I would be allowed a 2nd one. It sounds so much better than my VA-1012. I'm glad I took the expert advice of some of the members at and didn't try to fix the old Velodyne, which seemed plenty fine when it worked, esp for movies. And I am really glad I rolled the dice on this PA-150SUB! I have yet to watch a movie, but I'm sure it will be far more than I need and what my wife will tolerate. So in conclusion, I really don't think you will find a better sounding or even nicer looking sub woofer at this price, much less one at 2x this price. The PA-150 is an amazing value in my book. Thank You PA and Overstock!

    • Pleasantly Surprised - This sub rocks!

I have looked at powered subs in the $700-$1K price range but decided to take a chance on this one. For true bass accuracy you can do a little better but will need look at subs in the price range I mentioned above. I am pleased to say that I am very happy with my purchase and service. I received this product on the stated date via UPS with no damage what so ever to the unit. Yes the outside of the box as a little rough looking but the sub is also inner packed. You may not find a lot of reviews for this sub online but rest assured this is a well made hard hitting powered sub woofer. This is a great sub for the money and a very good value. Build quality, fit and finish are much better than I expected at this price point. In order to get the best performance from this “ported” sub you will need to try various placement locations, adjust the crossover and volume settings and make sure you have it correctly phased. Many of the other tweaks can be done using your A/V receiver also which I found necessary to get the best transparent balance. I might buy another one to complete my THX Ultra2 set up. I don't think I really need another one but at this price why not. Do your research which is most of the fun, buy within your means and enjoy music and movies at home.

    • Fantastic Deal

I did quite a bit of research before buying this sub and was fortunate enough to find it here for 30 bucks cheaper! This thing is HEAVY and shipped double boxed. Outside box had dents and holes but interior packaging was pristine. Coming from a hard pounding Cerwin Vega CLSC-12 powered sub I had some reservations that this could serve as a comperable replacement but boy was I wrong. Totally different sound coming from a 15" sub. Deep Deep bass and lots of it. This thing shakes my sofa 10 feet away without breaking a sweat. I don't have to have this thing cranked to get incredible bass. In fact I'm looking forward to watching all my movies again because I know that I'll be in for a whole new audio experience. I'm in love with this thing and it's still in the break in period. I would highly recommend this product. Build quality is superb and for being a 15" sub it's sound reproduction is tight and very accurate. As a side note, forums also recommended the Subdude which is a subwoofer platform that practically eliminates the obnoxious wall shaking and pipe wobbling sounds that are inherent to deep base reproduction. Can't say enough about that product either!
