Ok for beginner
from Connecticut, USA,  Feb 4, 2008

This camer is ok for a beginner. I had an old JVC vhs camcorder which is lower quality than this one, so I'm happy with this product. I needed an inexpensive DV recorder, plus this one takes great pictures too. The lighting is KEY with this camera. The night shot is useless as it does help with the brightness for the video, but it's really really jerky. Don't even bother shooting in dark environments. The still like I said are great, but again.. darkness is an issue. It does have a flash though, so that helps a little. Price for this camera was the key selling point. If the camera was terrible, I didn't lose much, but I'm happy with it. I have recorded about 5 minutes of video and taken 11 stills since I changed the batteries so far and it still says full battery. You will want to get a couple pairs of good rechargables though. AA's was another key point. I prefer it over Lithium Batters with A/C charger. If you forgot to charge your cam you're out of luck, but AA's can be bought at any convienience store in a pinch! The zoom on this is digital, so when you're zooming in during a video, it does have a little herky jerky motion, but all in all it's ok. The mic is placed on the TOP of the camera.. that's a small issue. It will pick the camera man up very well if/when they speak, but the subjects will be muffled/hard to hear. You'll want to tell your subjects to speak louder than normal to get them nice and clear. There is an small power button under the LCD enclosure. If the camera is on, just tap the power button and it turns on the Video Light (not much help, but it's there.) The polariod website says this cam can only read up to a 1gb SD card. This is false. You can use a 2gb which gives about 40 minutes of video. Transfering the files to the computer is a no brainer. Although the camera is a little slow to transfer them to the cpu. You may want a good SD card reader if transfer time is an issue for you unless your tower has one built in already. 80mb video file took about 2 minutes to transfer over for me directly from the camera. The videos the camera does make are relativley large in size, so you'll want a good video editing software to compress them and whatnot. I have not yet transfered my videos to DVD, but i'm sure I'll get what I paid for. Definitly a beginner's camera.. A pro would not be very happy with quality / function. I'd recommend this to anyone that needs a beginner camera and doesn't want to spend hundreds on a bigger model.

yaay!

Finally, a camera/camcorder that actually does what it says it will do. Be aware of the storage size. It only holds 6 pictures before you by a SD card. It works very well, wouldn't exchange it for another camera!

this is my first digital camera and it is the best choice for someone like me. the price was good and it's so easy to use. the only downfall is that it takes like ten seconds to wait for the flash to recharge so you have to wait awhile between pictures. the quality is really amazing.

Good Video, okay pictures
from NYC, NY,  Apr 8, 2008

The video is superb, but the camera does not work too well for still photos indoors. The camera has some awesome features though, and as a college student looking to have a camera/video cam for general use, this is small/cheap/good enough for anybody who does not mind having an okay camera.

unsure what to think
 from Indiana,  Apr 4, 2008

The camcorder is a great size, great price, and my son is loving it. But I bought it for me. I had a hard time figuring out how to delete files on the camcorder - my son figured it out, but directions would have helped since you have to hit a nearly hidden button away from all the others to do it. And I have still not figured out how to actually put the files on a CD - again, no instructions as to how to do it. At least I figured out how to upload the files to the computer. I am not sure how much use we will get out of this other than playing with it, because if I can't put the files on a CD or DVD, they are very limited in thier use. Yes, the SD card is a necessity - you get about 6 seconds of video without it. And get a BIG SD as video files take a lot of space! I agree with others, it's difficult to use in low light and the quality in lower light is not good, but again, for the price, I didn't expect too much. I like the camcorder and would recommend it to others as a great entry level digital camcorder with an amazing price, but expect some frustration with it, too. A little more information and instructions on how to make it work for you would go a long way!

Great for 11 year olds
from Fairfax County, VA,  Apr 3, 2008

Bought this video camera for my daughter's 11 th birthday. She had no problem figuring out how to use it on her own. It's perfect for the short movies she and her friends like to make. It has provided countless hours of entertainment. Great item for kids, but no where near the quality an adult would want.

Polaroid CAA-03040S 3.0 MP Digital Video Camera
from The State of Washington,  Mar 31, 2008

Is an excellent video camera for newbies to the picture world. I only gave 4 stars because of the problem of getting a dark site lit. The video light isn't enough and the flash is, many times, too bright. It's really tempermental about light. Otherwise I've been having lots of fun.

Polaroid Video Camera
from Spokane, Wa,  Mar 29, 2008

I guess you could say you get what you pay for!!! It is easy to use but there is no memory card that comes with the camera. The batteries that come with the camera last about 2 minutes so really are worthless. The size is very nice because it is small and you can just put it in your purse or even your pocket but I think it should at least have some internal memory that would let you take at least some videos but it doesn't. So you need to put out a large expensive for a memory card before you can even use it but it is a nice little camera.

Electronics for school
from East Texas,  Mar 27, 2008

I needed an affordable camera that I could use to take video and transcribe to web pages / send via e-mail for my Masters program. This fit the bill perfectly and didn't break the budget. It took about 30 minutes to read the instructions and become comfortable operating the camera on a quick response basis. It is easy to download to my computer, the picture quality is fine for computer use but might be fuzzy on big screen viewing. The flip out view screen allows for a larger screen and also keeps the screen safe when not in use. The placement of the screen and of the buttons allows for easy operation, and the camera has an option of video or still shots. The videos are brief - but I was able to take clips of my daughter's baby shower to send to out-of-town family. All in all, a very satifactory purchase.

For fun only!
from Rowlett, Texas,  Mar 19, 2008

This camera is great outdoors. It does not take good pictures in the dark and the camcorder isn't all that gr8. But if you want just something for fun this is great. I would recomend buying a more expensive camera.

from spanish fork, utah,  Mar 18, 2008

I bought this for my daughter who turned nine years old. She uses it and loves it. It was easy for her to use. I wish it had a rechargeable plug in, becasuse it drains the batteries so fast. Other than the batteries I think it was great for her and we bought another one for our teenager.

Okay For the price
from Buffalo, NY,  Mar 17, 2008

I was skimping out on spending some real money on another video camera, so insead i purchased this one. The price is right it has some cool features, but i wasnt competely impressed. The lag time when you are panning the camera is crazy it makes it very hard to catch impromtu pictures. It does do still though which is nice, and the quality of a picture that actually comes out focesed isnt all that bad. Was going to return but instead decided to just hang on to it anyway.

Great starter digital camcorder/camera. Easy to use. Image is hazy if it is too close. Pretty much requires an extra memory card since the built in memory gets filled quickly after a few seconds of video or after few digital image photos. Since it uses 2 X AA batteries and those can be used up pretty quickly, I would recommend getting a rechargeable battery kit with rechargeable batteries.

Good Gift
 from VA,  Mar 10, 2008

Bought this item for my husband for his birthday. We were impressed considering the price of the camera. Works great and easy to use. Comes in very handy withought the hassle of charging as with most camcorders, and it fits right in his pocket. Considering purchasing more as gifts for everyone.

Affordable and very decent camera
from Northern Illinois,  Mar 4, 2008

I recommend that you get at least the 2GB SD Card along with this camera. It fills up quick on the internal memory. So far, I have had a lot of fun and success with this camera. Do read the manual, however, it will get you more familiar with its features more quickly. Battery life is ok with the alkalines provided. I suggest not using the alkalines that came with the camera but start right away with lithiums, you will get better battery life. You don't even need a card reader, it will hook straight up to your computer with the cables and programming provided as long as you have USB ports or a USB converter. I am happy with this purchase.
