The ad for this product led this purchaser to believe that by purchasing this item I would be able to use it to dub my VHS tapes to DVD discs. The item I was sent will not perform that function. Thus, my belief that the ad was deceitful and the item was sold under false pretenses. I was ripped off!
In the details of this product, Overstock lists that it is a DVD RECORDER upon which one may transfer VHS home movies onto DVD. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. This is simply a run-of-the-mill VCR/DVD PLAYER combo. You can--for whatever reason one may imagine--transfer high-quality DVD videos onto lower-quality videotape, but NOT vice versa. Because of this, the value of this particular refurbished product is minimal. I've seen brand-new VCR/DVD combos for sale for a hundred bucks.
I bought this VCR because I was transferring our family home movies from VHS to DVD. I needed a simple VHS but was worried about buying a VHS from a thrift store because usually people sell them after it has eaten a tape. I decided to spend a little bit more on something that I knew wouldn't eat my tapes and this product did it. All of the connections are easy to use and it came with the AV cable as well as a remote which made the conversion process a whole lot easier. The quality of the VHS was actually quite surprisingly good for how old my VHSs are. Of course VHS degrade in quality completely independent of the VHS player but this VHS player gave me great quality even on my oldest VHSs. I would recommend this to someone who doesn't want to give up their VHSs or has software to convert VHS to DVD. I have not tried the dvd player yet but if the quality of it is close to the VHS player I am quite happy. Also the refurbished part of this player has not affected the quality.
It's a simple machine that works perfectly for us.
Great product and great value. Would recommend to everyone.
I recently bought this unit because my second dvd unit quit working. I had 2 separate units 1 dvd player and 1 vcr unit. I decided to buy 1 unit to save on space and to update vcr unit. I havent been disapointed this unit was super easy to set up and i was watching someone within minutes. This was a very good buy and i dont think that you will be disapointed
I purchased 2 of these and am delighted with them. Recommend them to anyone who likes to record shows to watch at a later time. Quality item at a Good price.
This dvd/vrc combo is a very good product and also very easy to use. We bought it for my 4 year old for her birthday and it took less than a day to teach her how to use it! It is wonderful cause now she can change movies from dvd to vhs as many times as she likes and she does it all on her own!
It takes a bit of figuring out and there's no book with the product. You have to use the CD that comes with it to find out any information you can't figure out. So far it works fine. For a re-furbished model, I have no complaints.
I think this is one of the BEST dvd/vcr combos! No tuner needed, can watch one channel while recording another channel. Very easy to use, easy timer programming! Phillips is a brand that I trust for a great and trustworthy product. I would definately recommend this item!
Product plays DVDs and VHS perfectly. Does it record DVDs? Nope. all in all enough bang for my buck.
Overall we are pleased with this player. It has great reception and the picture and sound quality is amazing. The only inconvenience is that the remote is rather small and buttons aren't labeled well. The power button is slow to respond also.
We purchased this combo to replace another. This one is difficult to use and sometimes acts strangely. We must keep a VCR tape in the unit at all times to have the DVD work properly. We have not sent it back as we have a young child that would not be pleased about not being able to watch videos. Wishing we would have paid the extra $20 for a better unit.
I had a previous experiance buying a refurbished vcr/dvd combo from Overstock, and this one was not as great. While the player does its job and you can view your media, there are a couple of annoying things about it. - The remote has very few features. This makes it difficult to change any one particular setting, especially while you are viewing a dvd. - The player does not remember if it is on vcr or dvd. Since I watch more dvds I find myself having to switch over everytime. Overall this is player that does its job, but is nothing special.
the player itself looks nice and works well. the remote is complex and doesn't always work. there is no menu button. there's a menu button for the remote itself, but not to go to the dvd menu. the remote alone will take me months to figure out. oh well.
exceellent michine easy to use plus the extra fetures
very satisfied with this product. it is all that they say it is
everything was good but they make it like you can turn old tapes to dvds but not the case. i should have read the reviews first.
It's great be able to have a choice. I like the features of recording .
I was quite impressed when I came across this item. Sanyo's a frontrunner in the industry of electronics and possessing the ability to transfer VHS tapes to DVD is a tremendous opportunity to save some precious moments. It took a while for me to transfer the unit from the previous DVD/VCR combo unit but as soon as I made the connection I was amazed with the ease of operation of the system. It's a winner and a keeper.
