i've finally got my new zealand dvd's in the mail and tested them. i hooked it up via hdmi cable (which is not included) and it instantly played them without a problem. so far i'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it for anyone needing a zone free dvd player. it's also nice that it will upconvert to 1080 when using a nice hdmi cable to lcd. the picture looks very nice. the sound comes out pretty good as well. it's a slim player and not deep so it can fit into a bookshelf if that's what you want. the cable in back didn't stick out too far. the component cable is only a 3 cable one so newer tvs will need an adapter to 6 component if using with a sound system.

My family watches DVDs from Sweden on a regular basis so I needed a player that gave us a seamless, all region playback option. Not only is this Philips model incredibly affordable, it delivers everything promised and more: all region DVD playback ability (without reprogramming - just insert disc and hit play!), HDMI output/input, responsive and quick remote control, and a sleek design. After buying two other cheap players that broke within 90 days, I'm thrilled by the performance of this unit.

I am more than pleased with this purchase. DVP was easy to hookup and played my CDs and DVDs (including those in PAL format) without a problem. Superior audio and video quality to boot. An excellent buy!!! I cannot believe I can watch DVDs purchased in Europe on something other than my PC.

The first one of these units I ordered arrived quickly but did not work. The video was completely shot. Overstock did take it back and gave a refund but it would have been nice to have had an exchange rather than having to wait for a refund and then re-order. The 2nd unit did work but it was advertised as a multi-region unit and it only worked on region 1. I ordered this because I had relatives visiting from Brasil and they had brought region 4 DVDs with them for their children to watch while they were here. I was able to enter the codes to make it multi-region but it was not easy to find this information.

I got this DVD player over a year ago as a second DVD player in my bedroom. It has worked well and have had no issues. It is not as nice as my Sony blue-ray but its good as a basic DVD player.

Along with a slick design, the quality (audio and video) of the product is very satisfactory. A great buy for its price.However, the product I received lack a manual (there was only a one-page setup sheet that came along with it). Although using the DVD player is not very difficult, a short manual will be helpful.

I loved it, absolutely: to play discs of different regions, to remember the last frame you watched on a disc, and everything. And, it is so cheap compared to others.The only minor problem I have is that when I connect it via the HDMI cable, occassionally the audio drops out. I have to change the setting to off then on again. But still, considering all the great functions, this is a minor problem.

I hesitate to buy refurbished items, but this was a great deal for college student's apartment. He uses it to watch movies and game films and said it has great audio/video quality and easy to hook up and operate. I've purchased other Philips electronics and always pleased with quality and value. This was a no-brainer for us...and Overstock is my fave place to shop on-line - always fast delivery and great customer service.

This player continues to amaze me as Philips' earlier version of upconversion DVD player. I also own a Philips DVP 5960 player, it's a 720p upconversion not 1024p, but I have been using it for 3 years and it still runs well. The video quality is superior comparing with other similar priced players. Comparing with DVP5960, I like these 3 improvements: 1) The remote control looks much better, and has all the buttons that I want, and yes, they added EJECT button, which is missing from the old model. 2) This model remember where I stop playing a movie, even after I take it out and put it back. I don't know how many disc it remembers, but I am going to test it out. 3) Region free player, and I can play both NTSC and PAL DVD.

Good player -plays all files I have. Even those that the previous model didn't play.The only problem I met - while using USB stick it stops playing after about 8-9 minutes and goes to the menu. But next run plays good. Not always does it but a little annoying...

We purchased this multi-region DVD player to replace our North America Region Only DVD player, which ironically costed twice as much as this one. This player sure plays all types of video inputs - movies from Asia, Europe, home videos, and JPG photos.We've only used it a few times so far, but the quality is good. The only minor complaint is that sometimes the sound isn't very loud. But it could be a result of the low-quality DVDs from Asia.

I don't even know what to say. You can buy a hard drive based media station for 100 dollars or so but this is easier and cheaper and it looks nice.

I purchased this DVD Player a couple weeks ago and so far I like it. I played some region 2 dvds and it was great. Good quality & Good price.

Get this while you can! These are hard to find, and even at this price are worth every penny. I previously had a 5900 for my downstairs a/v setup and loved it. One year and a half later I tried to find it to buy for upstairs, and the newest model # was the 5992. But... They are no longer made, so I had to scour the internet to find the one here. This is loaded with features such as mp3 playback, and DivX, but the one thing I love the most is the USB input. It is so handy to play mp3s or DivX on a little flash drive! This is also a nice slim design that works really well!

This dvd player is an excellent value for the price. It's easy to set up, easy to use, and plays my region 2 dvds beautifully. The quality of the video is exceptional. Highly recommended.

an outstanding value, plays my dvd's from overseas and also the ones from here in the states. a breeze to set up and to play.

I bought this dvd player refurbished, and it does not play most of my dvds. The player says "loading" and then "no disk". These dvds all play fine on my laptop.
