I bought two of these and neither was completely "refurbished" . The HDMI connections would not work. I purchased these dvd players to play dvds of all regions. The firmware was updated on the second and it could not be reprogrammed. I am through with buying other people's problems. I purchased (3) Pioneer Dv-420vk from another on-line retailer and gave (2) away as gifts. The Pioneer Dv-420vk plays all regions right out of the box and all of the video connections work!
Works very well, now that I've got it connected. I'm an engineer, so I don't usually expect problems when it comes to electronics. But this one gave me major headaches. The instructions were confusing and the accompanying diagrams were too small to be of much use. The layout of connections at the back of the player was misleading, which I would have spotted much more quickly had the diagram in the instruction booklet been usable. Other than connecting it up, I'm very pleased with the performance. It can be a bit sluggish responding to the remote. Nonetheless, for the price I'm extremely happy with it. I would buy it again if I had it to do over.
It functions properly out of the box. The remote wasn't being read by the unit very well. After upgrading to the latest firmware that did improve. The USB feature is the main reason I made this purchase and I found 2 out of 3 thumb drives that I own can be read by the unit, but couldn't figure out why the one couldn't be (same brand as one of the other 2). Overall it is a good functioning unit but compared to my regular DVD player it is more primative. Considering it has a USB input and reads all blank media disks its a worthy trade off.
