Region Free Code For The Philips DVP3962/37 :Press 'Setup' Scroll to 'Preference page'using the Left/Right arrow key Press 138931″ and a popup screen will appear Use the Up arrow key and select 0 for a region free DVD player Done.
This is a great DVD player. Mine came with the region code set to 0 and it would play DVD's made for any zone (my particular need was for Zone2, UK). Others have posted information on how to reset the region code (if necessary). Here is a quick set of directions:1) Press set-up on remote and scroll to the "preference page". Note that I had to press the remote key with a solid square twice before I could scroll to this page.2) Enter the code number "138931" with the remote. A popup screen will appear.3) Use the up-arrow key to select a code of zero (0) and you now have a region free DVD player.4) Exit the setup menu
Had this for two months (the warranty only lasts for 30 days) and now I have had sound quality issues part way through three different CDs/DVDs so I am thinking the DVD has not really been refurbished properly.... but it was really inexpensive - so if I can get it repaired for free I might just get another one. Anyway for those of you who don't get the loose bit of paper with the instructions on how to make this DVD play all region DVDs - here's the instructions: (1) Turn on the unit. (2) Open the loading tray. (3) Press the "setup" button on the remote control. (4) Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key. (5) Enter 138931. (6) You will now see the current region code displayed. (7) Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions. (8) Press the "play" button on the remote. --- These worked for me.
There were virtually no instructions that came with the player. Only a piece of paper to program the remote control. Otherwise, everything is working just fine, years later. Thanks.
- How did the image on site compare with the actual product? Perfect
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Yes
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. It's still working perfectly. Thanks.
This multi-region DVD works just fine. It's only a regular machine with the multi-region code already programmed in, and the code's included in the box. If you know where/how to hunt down the codes to unlock machines then you don't need to buy one ready-coded, but I can't be bothered with the hassle for the extra $10 and this one works straight from the box.
- Did the image onsite match the product? Yes
- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Yes
- How is the quality of the product? No set-up required - worked fine right from the box
Recently received the Philips multiregion DVD player and am very pleased with it. It took only about two minutes to set-up and was already programmed to play all regions. I'm in the USA and the first DVD I played was one from England. I have played three DVD's from England and about five or six from the USA and everything works perfectly, both the DVD player and the remote. Only very minor complaint was that batteries were not included. Great product and a very good price.
Excellent for the price. I like the 1080i upconversion. It was easy to setup - there were separate instructions on how to change the region code. I set it up for egion 0 - basically should play all regions. I've only used it to watch a British DVD so far - all I really need it for. I have a Bluray player for everything else. The remote is simple and my receiver remote was easily programmed to replace it - some remotes are so complicated that that is not possible.
This is the second one of these DVD players I've bought from Overstock in the past few weeks. It's a testament to what a great DVD player I think it is. The remote is easy to use and the player pushes a great picture to my TV. I have no complaints about the DVD player. My disappointment comes from the fact that the first DVD player I received included a manual and batteries for the remote. The second one I ordered did not. Since I use the two players in two different homes, I would have liked to have had the second manual. Batteries for the remote would have been a nice touch too. Again, the DVD player is great - the packaging from Philips is not consistent.
... but if you are looking for a DVD player that supports disks other than Zone 1 it is a resonably priced option.
I just received this a few hours ago and could only make it work with region 1 disks. The remote didn't work on this unit. It did turn on my other multiregional DVD player though. Overall I am very disappointed and will be sending it back as soon as possible. Also, the packaging was bad. It was just put in a shipping box and didn't have any bubble wrap or extra care packaging to keep it from bounding around in the box when shipped. There was only one copied page of instructions.
I've been using this dvd player for a month now and it works fine. The image quality is not outstanding, looks like my old dvd player quality, but it plays multiple format dvds and that makes it valuable.
I share the same sentiment as jennusf. Poor packing, very little instructions, and definitely does not contain directions how to change the region. My player was apparently set to Region 1. I put in my disc and player said "wrong region". I followed the previous reviews and could not find the preference page, however, you can not get to the preference page with a disc inserted into the player. Be sure disc tray is either open, or closed without a DVD inside. Got to the preference page, entered the code referenced by a couple of reviewers and all worked fine. You can choose regions 0 through 6. We'll see how long it lasts, being refurbished and poorly packed, but as of now. DY-NO-MITE!!! I can easily watch my New Zealnd movies now. Also, the player is VERY compact - About 3/4 smaller than most "small" DVD players.
The DVD player was very easy to setup and works
I would like to first say that I have (so far) not had any problems with the product itself. I was a little hesitant about buying a refurbished DVD player, but the price was right and I really wanted the multiregion capabilities. We just hooked it up and it works mostly like a champ (although there's a regular American DVD that it just won't play...don't know why). We've tried other Region 1 DVDs, burned DVDs, and Region 2 DVD's and they've worked no problem. Just follow the other reviewers' instructions for setting to region free. So what's the problem? This thing was poorly shipped and I'm worried it will quit working on me any moment. There was no padding or anything in the box. When the UPS driver delivered it, all that was in the box was a photocopied instruction sheet, the DVD player, and the remote, just rattling around. No styrofoam, peanuts, or anything. The fact that it started up and seems to be working makes me hopeful that there won't be any problems, but I am disappointed in Overstock (or their fulfillment partners) for doing such a poor shipping job. I've ordered plenty of other items on this site, from DVDs and books to furniture and never had a problem, so I'm hoping this won't be a problem either.
Do not buy this refurbished under any circumstances. Mine died one month after purchase and had only been used twice. The warranty is for a month so don't expect any help from Overastock.com or the company that reburbished the machine DSL Ibternational trading.
As a basic DVD player this is a good buy. However, I was shopping for a true multiregional dvd player to play discs from England and this unit will only play discs formatted for the US even thoght it was advertised as multiregional.
It was difficult trying to figure out how to make it have no region on it, but once i figured it out, then its a great product.
THIS IS A GREAT UNIT for any price. Just remember, you have to open and close the DVD slot on the unit since it's NOT on the remote. Use a HDMI cable for ease in set-up and picture/sound quality. The ONLY reason for the 4 stars is because of the Remote. It Plays all regions if you follow the instructions correctly. ENJOY!!!
This player is sleek, stylish, and functions well. I believe that says it all.
I purchased this looking to play my Region 2 DVDs, however it specifically says on the player's back side, "Region1". Once I put a DVD in, it said, "Wrong Region". I will be returning this. Very disappointing, as I was really looking forward to this!
