Just No Good

tcbfast from San Leandro, CA, Nov 3, 2009

When we first saw this VCR/DVD with a digital tuner AND in silver we thought our dreams of replacing our old one was answered. Too bad the unit didn't cooperate. The VCR side just had no idea how to play a tape. At first I thought it was a tracking problem, but discovered there was no way to do manual tracking. I then tried to record on a DVD and found that half the recording was cut off as the machine decided the two-hour recording was too long for this disc despite the fact I set the recording on SLP.In other words, it was just no good. Too bad - a good brand name destroyed by either bad refurbishing or bad construction in the first place.

Great until

linag93 from Killingworth, CT, Mar 30, 2009

I loved it until the VCR started eating the tapes. Until then the setup was easy and I could record the new channels on both DVD and VCR. Now it is a fancy DVD recorder player. I am going to try another one but not refurbished.

batch of lemons

I try to reserve bad reviews only when they are truly deserved. Note that I was very happy with the customer service of overstock, but this product is very poor. I had read the reviews and seeing that someone has always trusted Phillips to deliver reliable quality I went with it. I will NOT buy refurbished electronics anymore. I purchased the dvd/vcr recorder combo to transfer a large number of vhs home videos to dvd and many mini dv's to dvd. The first dvd/vcr recorder that came successfully recorder half the vhs to dvd, then the dvd would no longer load and it said it was unable to record to the dvd. I was even using the manual recomended dvd.I exchanged with Overstock for another recorder combo and the service was great, but now the machine I have and am stuck with is a lemon too. The vhs deck ejects tapes in the middle of watching and then when the tape is out it continues to try to eject the tape while making a loud cranking sound and then shutting off. This is only corrected by unplugging and then plugging back in . Totally unhappy with Phillips and refurbished electronics.
