This is a terrific PDA. I was going to buy a Treo phone/pda until I realized that my need for internet access didn't warrant the extra monthly expense(Treo's, as far as I know, don't have built-in WiFi). If you're like me and you're attracted to the idea of both simple operation and, of course, "free," wireless internet acccess, this baby's the one for you. Seriously, if you don't NEED a full-size laptop, this wireless (read: free internet) device can be used to quickly check e-mails, do google searches, mapquests, etc. in addition to doing everything else a PDA does to help organize a busy life. When I'm on the road, I usually have free wireless in my hotel or can find it fairly easily (Panera Bread's one popular option) and some (but not all) major hotel chains and airports. Plus I can load photos, videos and music for my personal enjoyment. Again, it's a must have if you don't quite need a laptop. In fact, even if you do use a laptop, the Palm TX can still be a handy tool. For example, It doesn't take forever to "boot up" like a computer so it's ready - and you're online - in seconds. Kudos to Palm - this one really hits a homerun and I truly enjoy using it everyday!
I upgraded from a Palm VX to the TX. The upgrade was easy. It pulled in all the VX data into the TX with no problems. I am able to use it as a PDA for scheduling, addresses, and phone numbers as well as playing MP3s and WMA music files and videos I download off the web. I surf the Internet easily. I can view MS Office documents. The memory card slot allows me to expand software or music files, etc. It is great!!
Great little device. I have been a user of these devices for quite some time having used many of their various models. I use a fold-up wireless keyboard with it and since it will allow screen rotation fits perfectly in the keyboard. The additional built in storage keeps me from have to move heavy programs in and out of the ram area. I use Quick Office to prepare word documents and excel spread sheets. I download many current books from eReader and have them available my enjoyment at my convenience. I used to use AvantGo to keep up with the news but since this unit allows me to go on the internet this is no longer necessary - I get the news directly. The amount of free software off the internet is endless. The unit has been a replacement for my having to haul a notebook around. Just a word regarding free WiFi. When connecting to Panera, I must telephone them to have them read my connection to receive permission and they will often give me several days at a time. Of course, when browsing at home, this is fully automatic. Battery life is phenomenal compared to my former Zire72 which I would keep plugged in when working on a spreadsheet . . . no longer necessary. The TX is the best back-pocket 'notebook' I know of. When doing research the TX is in one pocket and the keyboard in the other. Works great. Gordon
Received quickly, excellent condition, looks new and works great. I have ordered a few things from Overstock and have not been disappointed yet.
I've owned so many PDA's since the Palm first came out that I've lost track. I have come back to Palm because I'm tired of lugging a laptop to check and reply to email and do web surfing on WiFi. This is my latest experiment to replace 8 lbs of $1000 laptop & charger. The results are excellent. The screen is great. The Wifi works superbly, battery life is excellent, Email access to Gmail, etc is excellent. It is *much* easier to navigate & use than Windows Mobile, which I use for my phone. Downside to the PDA? Occasionally crashes when running Wifi & try to check email. Seems to recover easily, w/no lost data. Add the IR keyboard, which is great, and I have a very realistic replacement for the laptop, for my needs. Check it out.
I am very excited about my Palm and love it. I am still learning to use it and have had difficulty cyncing it but I haven't had time to sit down and play with it either. Have enjoyed playing with it, though, and look forward to doing more with it. I wish it had come with a "booklet" to show you how to troubleshoot and who to call with problems. Otherwise - I love it.
This unit is ALOT more friendly than the much more expensive Sony line and in the event of repair/replacement, cant cost nearly as much. VERY happy with the "open box" model
This is more than an average palm. YOU have to charge the device before using and you have to install all of the software to use this device to work up to the the expectation that it claims to have. stay away from the games as they use too much of the battery to be useful to you during the day. Keep the charger handy as it does need attention. tranfer from pervious palms is simple just name it like the other and you will do fine and a "no braIner" to do. It is a bit hard to get the point and shoot sylist but you can calabrate it if you haven't used the palm for a while or it you are just beginning to use it out of the box. What you really are doing is training you hand-eye to do what the device already know. Keep in mind that this takes time at first but the quicker you do this the more useful you become and more efficent at what you do on this PDA. Works well if you have owned a Palm before. This is a organiser that you set up and you should devide them into business and personal information when it comes to contacts. Keeping tract of medical and personal business it another. A Date stamp would be nice too.
This is my first PDA and I have enjoyed this product so far. I am a beginning user so I have had to learn how to download information to the Palm. I am learning how to use it and hope it will be beneficial to me. I am a student in a Nurse Practitioner program and I have found that many medical personnel use these PDAs to access information they need for diagnosis and treatment. I am confident that this Palm will do everything I hope it will in the future.
Currently, I have owned two of these. Both bought from Overstock. The first one, started having problems with the screen flickering and changing to weird colors right out of the box. The customer service rep kindly mailed me another one and I sent my current one back. After the Palm sitting on a shelf for about 2 weeks, I picked it up and found it doing something else. Again, with the screen. This time it was worse. I couldn't even access anything and it would just go to a screen with a colorful "blotch" and would not respond to anything. I thought it might start working again so I put off contacting customer service back for a few days but finnally got on the online chat with them. At this point, I just wanted my money back so I could go somewhere else and buy a new one. Nope Overstock wouldn't allow that. So I told them I would settle for a replacement. Curenntly I am waiting on a box to be mailed to me so I can mail the defective palm to them, wait for them to "inspect" it, then they will mail me yet another refurbished Palm TX.
The product is okay but I didn't know I was getting a used PDA for over $200.00. I was disappointed when I received the package with no instructions to go along with but a sticker on that said used. I thought the price I paid was buying me a new PDA and I would have liked to receive some instructions on how to use it. I have had to play around with to learn the features and its taking me a long time because I have no manual to guide me.
Don't like the product at all because the WI DI just does not work.Roswell
After my Palm T3 could not be fixed, I wanted to replace it but found that it had been replaced by the TX. I was leery of purchasing a refurbished palm, but I have had it for several weeks now and have had no problems whatsoever. There was a seemless transition with re-installing all of the information from my old Palm. I had hot-synced fairly often, so I lost no data or programs. All applications work smoothly on the TX that worked on the T3. The TX has one feature that the T3 did not have that is an excellent improvement: Wifi. The T3 and the TX both offered bluetooth connectivity, but the wireless (Wifi) feature of the TX is fantastic - one-touch scanning for access and connectivity. Highly recommended from a frequent Palm buyer.
Excellent Palm. Does everything well. Better character recognition than earlier Palm. WiFi works fine too.
I've had 3 PDA's over the last 6 years and this one is AMAZING! I considered a Treo, but am just not quite tech savvy enough to go up to that level. However, I am amazed at why this PDA can do. I was able to use the Bluetooth (which I didn't understand before) to put information on my new cell phone. I can use the wifi to get my mail anywhere there is a wifi hotzone. I can work on documents, view videos and pictures, read adobe reader files, etc... It's like having a mini computer with you at all times. There's so much that I haven't even explored yet, but it is definitely worth the money!
I really like the Tungsten TX. It came in good time, was in great shape, and worked right out of the box. I was able to hotsync it successfully to 3 computers and really like Docs to Go that comes with it. The wireless card is a bit too 'light weight' if I were needing to rely on it to check email when out and about, but the other features are great. Hooked it up to a speaker and the music was clear and good. I would recommend this handheld to anyone looking for a good pda with lots of space and ease of use.
The 128 meg was defiately better than less memory versions. The 320-480 screen opens up ,ore possibilities too. Pick one you like because you and this PDA are going to spend alot of time together. - Would reccomend this product
the product was in excellent shape. brand new. i am very pleased with overstock.com.
Have been pleased with Palm TX but it does crash and re-boot when starting up certain applications. Once it does the re-boot it proceeds with the application. I don't know if this is a function of it being a refurb or if they all do it. Took me a couple days to figure out the music player. They want you to purchase a service but I found ways to get the music going for free and seems to be more user friendly. (Get a SD/USB adaptor and load music via your computer USB port onto the SD drive.)
This is a great product. I upgraded from the Palm m515. I love the wifi and the documents to go. Of course the standby address book (contacts) and calendar are why I bought the PDA in the first place. They are great! The ability to listen to music and look at photos or video are nice accompaniments. I was up and running really quickly.
