Pros Include: Unbeatable "Tough" Specifications (waterproof, dust-proof, drop-proof, freeze-proof), although I have not confirmed performance Photo capture speed (time between consecutive photos) is impressive for a point & shoot 2.0 Aperture & Aperture Priority Dial Setting is a great addition; allows for great low-light performance Macro mode is awesome; can get grainy in some conditions but overall an impressive feature HD Video: considering the size and durability of the camera, to have HD video along with slow-motion options is just too cool; as long as you're not expecting SLR/pro-level results you'll be extremely satisfied. Tap-Mode: If you're wearing gloves this is a priceless feature!! Looks: Unlike some of the other life-proof cameras out there this one actually looks and feels tough; nice job Olympus Good but not Great: Photo Quality is good but not great; you'll find more details in online reviews; again, if you don't expect SLR-quality photos you'll be extremely satisfied 4x Zoom; I would appreciate a faster and longer zoom, but again, you're sacrificing some things for intense durability The Aperture Priority setting allows you to jump between 2.0, 2.8 and 8.0, not the full f-stop range you'd find on a manual camera, but still very useful Shutter Speed: Good, but not as fast as other rugged P&S; not a deal-killer and not as necessary with the higher aperture but should be improved on future models A Few (mostly inconsequential) Cons: Price - granted I purchased new and shortly after release, if you don't need the wide 2.0 aperture there are cheaper options available, also the optional telephoto and fish-eye lenses are costly; I doubt I'll invest in these. The lens ring on the outside (which is removable to allow mounting of optional lenses) does come loose pretty easily; you don't need it for the camera to function, but I would definitely make this more secure on future models I would have appreciated a black (not red) wrist lanyard and something that was a bit more "tough" to match the camera specs, I ended up buying a standard black, adjustable wrist-strap. Noise and slow focus during video; again Overall - I was debating between this camera and a more pro-level compact P&S as my every-day-carry camera. The manual features of the pro-compacts are great, but for the money, I was not impressed enough with the performance and results; they were either too expensive, too big, too slow, or just not high enough quality to justify the cost. I decided that I can grab my SLR when I wanted to take pro-shots and that having a P&S that could take a serious beating and still take great photos in various conditions was a better option for me. This may not be everyone's conclusion, and an SLR-user will definitely enjoy the pro-compact features, but I am someone who is very hard on anything electronic and wanted something small enough to carry anywhere and tough enough to withstand the elements and my own clumsiness; the Tough TG-2 fit the bill nicely and I am happy with the purchase.Read More
