I have used this recorder to record classroom lectures and to digitize tape cassettes from a tape deck. It works beautifully and is very simple to use. This purchase was for a friend.

The Olympus LS-10 Linear PCM Portable Digital Recorder is just what I was looking for. I wanted the ability to make quality recordings with the ease I became accustomed to in my beloved analogue recorders. The Olympus is incredibly simple to use. I can record in the dark, thanks to the illuminated screen. It's intuitively designed and well constructed. I learned how to operate it within minutes. It comfortably fits one hand and you can press the buttons with a thumb. It's small, lightweight, and comes with a handy wrist strap, and cushioned protective case, so you can throw it in a backpack and go! After turning it on, press the record button twice and you're immediately able to record a new (pre-labeled) track of audio. All audio files are contained within folders of your choice, so projects can be organized with little to no effort. Record levels can be adjusted with a dial and further mic sensitivity can be achieved with a "mic sense" switch. These offer a good range of options for whatever your recording circumstances might be. By listening on record/pause in headphones, you're able to achieve just the set up you need, within seconds. I've acquired excellent recordings of birds and insects, quiet conversations, delicate improvisational performances, loud bands, orchestras and construction sites. A sound card isn't necessary to begin recording and the Olympus even comes with decent batteries - so if you're eager to begin, you can start recording right out of the box! My only criticism is that the internal speakers are too quiet in playback to be shared with other ears, but on headphones playback is perfectly audible and the Olympus can be plugged into speakers for increased volume control. The Overstock shipping was fast, and the Olympus was well packaged and protected. I am completely satisfied and would recommend this product for anyone interested in sensitive, close and wide-range recording.

O yeah ! I'm very happy to have it finaly ! Only a few days since I ordered it and... it's at home now. The Olympus LS 10 is perfet for interviews, meetings etc... I'm a journalist and he's my perfect companion every day :-)

I purchased this for my boyfriend for his birthday. He's a musician and absolutely went nuts over this recorder. The Olympus name alone should be enough but I can tell you the recording quality is amazing. My boyfriend says now he can record his music and hear every mistake as clear as a bell...hah!
